...so here's how today is going so far
The holiday season began, officially, last night, whith Mrs. OBDs admonition that "I am not eating no damn tofurky." Not that I thought she would, but why not at least offer. She wasn't much happier when I chose that moment to impart a grammar lesson.

This morning, an entire tube of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls turned to charcoal during the Macy's parade. Dinner is consisting of a Jenny-O turkey breast and a small pork loin-- both of which have resided in our freezer since last TG, when we received an invitation from kind, caring people -- who henceforth will never invite us to dinner again. On the bright side, I have enough sausage cheese balls to last until New Years and allow for me to gain at least 5 more pounds. I'm making a half-assed attempt at cranberry-sausage dressing (is it "dressing" or "stuffing" in your house?), and I have just realized - this moment - that I have no clue how to cook a sweet potato. Thank Divine Providence fot the internet. The mashed potatoes, this year, are being made by Aunt OreIda - so 'm not worried about that.

...it'll be a mracle if we don't all end up either in the hospital or at Village Inn.

Happy Thanksgiving, my fellow left of centerers, lefties, and wingnut lurkers!

1. my effing oven doesn't work
but I got two pumpkin pies finished, and it will function for dressing (this year because I wasn't going to do stuffing in the crock pot where the turkey is cooking) and rolls.

cook sweet potatoes the same as regular spuds. You can bake, boil, fry. That's where I'm cheating this year - been doing fresh ones the last few years but I don't like them T-day style and nobody who does cares if they are canned so that's what I'm putting the marshmallows on - canned sweets. They can be passed under the broiler to brown.

3. Thinking of your plight

If you have a charcoal outdoor grill you can pick up a suitable cast iron( no plastic handles) pot to use as a dutch oven at Goodwill. Also I suggest Craigslist; you can get decent appliances there cheap.
Happy Thanksgiving wishes to you anyway :hi:

5. That happened to a frien of mine last year. A gracious neighbor, who was
vacationing insisted on my friend using his kitchen. It saved Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the tips. I think I rather botched the job. I boiled the ootato to what I thought was fork tender, only to find the inside wasn't done. Nuked it. Mashed in butter, cinnamon, & cloves, and rebaked for a 2x baked effect -- we'll see.

4. Search the internet for something humorous. Laughter is the best
medicine. Happy Thanksgiving.

8. Thanks, redwitch,
but it isn't the holidays. It just is. If anything, the holiday gives me time to rest from it all.
