1. Let's get this straight: a PEE CAN is something you use when the toilet is broken.
It's a pe-CAHN. Dammit. No matter what Paula Deen says. :P

3. I have tried and tried to study the proper pronunciation of this word and I cant solve it
It's not strictly regional, social level, or anything else.
My aunt (ant, not ahhnt) will be making a pe cahn pie while my other aunt will make a sugar free pea-can pie.

I just cant crack this one.

11. there's a third pronunciation -
Edited on Thu Nov-26-09 01:11 PM by mzteris
Pee-cahn' ("pee" with the accent plus the "cahn")

weird, I know . . .

Being originally from Georgia, I revert to "pee-can" most of the time, but if I'm thinking about it I try and say p'cahn. . .

edit: left out a word

My momma'd roll over in her grave!!

She (and I) were born in Gawhjah, doncha know?

Sad thing is, no one in my family likes it here. My daughter does - and makes a mean pie, but she just married a guy who's allergic to nuts. :sigh: - I suppose momma's recipe is gonna die with us. :(

And, somebody skimped on the pecans. It appears they over-handled/over-rolled the crust, too. It looks like it's tough, instead of flaky.

34. It is an inedible thing
There are exactly eight kinds of pies out there:

Pie No. 1: Chocolate pudding pie. These are best if you fill the shell half full of coconut before you put in the pudding.
Pie No. 2: Banana cream pie. You can make this in one of two ways--make a good old-fashioned Southern-style banana pudding sans vanilla wafers, or make vanilla pudding and add sliced bananas to it.
Pie No. 3: Coconut cream pie. This one's really easy: vanilla pudding with a bag of coconut stirred into it.
Pie No. 4: Pumpkin pie. Requires REAL whipped cream. My wife LOVES Cool Whip on pumpkin pie. This is an atrocity and I hate it, but I love her so what are you gonna do?
Pie No. 5: Lemon meringue pie. Don't use boxed lemon pudding, it is far too tart.
Pie No. 6: Barack Obama pie. Same pie as No. 5, but using Nellie & Joe's Key West Lime Juice instead of lemon juice.
Pie No. 7: Fruit pies. All of them are good.
Pie No. 8: All those other sorry-ass excuses for pie you poor deluded individuals believe are edible, such as the thing in the picture in the OP.
