To anybody who has no concept of 'personal space' when parking in a lot,
I may stop writing notes telling you to learn some common decency and do unto you what you did to me.

The dents, scratches, why do other people have to be so thick that they can inanely park and bash into whatever they want?

I'll stick with writing notes. And gluing them on the window instead. Seems less costly than to go to the body shop to fix their carelessness.

1. Krazy Glue on the wiper blades?
That would be wrong, wrong, wrong...

2. On the other side
My wife always parked her car way out in the parking lot next to no one, cause she liked to keep her baby scratch and dent free. So what happens? In its isolation, it was an easy target to break into.

3. I went to the drugstore yesterday, and when I came out, some dufus
had parked his/her car so close to the driver's side door that I had to get in on the passenger side and climb over the console to get to the driver's seat.

And said dufus drove a very small car, so it wasn't like he/she was trying to squeeze a Hummer into a compact parking spot.

5. Instances like that are perfect for getting out your camera-phone
or pocket point'n'shoot, grabbing a pic of the offending situation and sending it into http://youparklikeanasshole.com so the rest of the world can view their idiocy, too :D

You can also print out "citation" notes from the site to let these "motorists" know the error of their ways

9. NOW you tell me!
Nice link, could've took a pic today...angled parking, doofus parks in straight taking up two spots. Yellow lines were fresh and highly visible. I mean come on!

12. If you ever get to see someone do that firsthand, I would bet you'll see
the epitome of laziness and self-importance. And it seems like the bigger the vehicle the more self-important they become.

For example, just this afternoon I was going to cross the parking lot from my car to the strip mall, only I stopped as there was a very large pickup bearing down on me, going much faster than 5mph, even with speed-bumps to "slow" him down. He waves to me as if I was waiting for him to pass first. Although his windows weren't down, when he passed I yelled after him "Nice of you to give me the right of way!"

Too many people just don't care anymore and the police seemingly don't enforce the "minor" traffic laws much, either. Or at least not in Houston.

I've never used those fake citations, but have used another idea someone on DU suggested: a hand-written note saying, "I'm sorry for the scratch I put in your car, but if you had parked properly, it wouldn't have happened." Of course, there is no scratch and this is usually done to those that take up two spaces or more to "protect" their precious car. I've never seen how they react, but would hope they spend the better part of an hour trying to find a non-existent scratch!

6. That happened to me a few weeks ago.
I'd parked in the last handicap spot, the next spot was a regular parking space. Since I presently lack any climbing abilities I headed back into the store with my full cart; happily for me, a good friend was coming out of the store and offered to do the climbing for me. He backed my car out of the space and parked it behind the offending vehicle to load the groceries. Didn't get lucky enough to have that driver show up during all that, probably just as well. But sheeesh.

4. I saw a car parked so badly yesterday
That I wished I had a note I could have stuck on it that said, "Really?"

It was an SUV that clearly had just whooshed into the space at an angle. They stayed parked at that angle, thereby blocking the car next to it from being able to get out.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you're going to drive those monster vehicles, you should have to take a test and get a special driver's license to prove you can handle them.

8. Saw a great episode of 'Touched by an Angel'
Edited on Wed Nov-25-09 05:02 PM by TrogL
...or one of those stupid right-wing shows like the Waltons, but set in current times.

The lead angel was at the mall and noticed a big pickup truck parked across three handicapped stalls. He did a little magic and next thing you know, it was on its roof.

I've got the solution to many of our unemployment problems. Mandatory drivers' tests every two years. If you flunk, you either take transit, a taxi or hire a chauffeur. That would employ drivers' testers, driving instructors, taxi drivers, chauffeurs, improve the transit system (more jobs)...the list goes on.

13. That would only work if the transit system is good to begin with.
To paraphrase an old Metro-Houston slogan: "You can't get there from here, or not in any reasonable amount of time."

The only part of their transit system that's worth the money they spent on it is the light rail. It goes north and south and that's it. Kind of hard to turn that into routes that require three or four transfers to get you to where you're going.

Personally, I would much rather we start to apply the existing technology to make the cars drive us! The only quote I've ever seen about why the car manufacturers won't get on it and make it happen is because "We don't want to take the fun out of driving." Oh yeah, dodging txting drivers is a whole lot of fun, now isn't it?

10. My usual note: "If you can't park it, don't drive it!"
Nine out of ten times, it goes on an SUV. The remaining times it is usually an overpriced car someone doesn't want to get scratched.
