An ode to eggnog
Edited on Mon Nov-23-09 09:00 PM by MissMillie
Creamy goodness mixed w/ booze
sprinkle of nutmeg--you just can't lose
Just one sip and joy abounds
if sold all year, I'd weigh 900 pounds

(ok... more than one ode)

Eggnog, eggnog... sweet and creamy
a glass or two and I feel dreamy
sprinkle of nutmeg and poured over ice
When I drink it I feel nice

Bourbon, rum and a little whiskey
A couple of glasses and I feel frisky
Sweet and creamy, cold and rich
I'm giving this drink my holiday pitch

2. My dear MissMillie!
I love love love the stuff!

Yup, it's a very good thing they don't sell it all year long, lol!

I too would weigh 900 pounds...:scared:

Out here, Alta Dena makes the best stuff!

Even without alcohol...

Cheers!

3. Oh, yes - and nicely done!
Concur on the limited seasonal availability being a good thing. But your ditties do remind me of my favorite toast; don't know it's origin, but it goes like this:

"I am a woman who doesn't drink, one or two at the most.
Three and I'm under the table, four and I'm under the host!"

Hmmm, do you suppose that's where "cheers!" came from...?

6. My dear madamesilverspurs!
I believe it was Dorothy Parker who first said that...

And I believe it went something like this:

I love to drink martinis,
Two at the very most,
Three, I'm under the table,
Four, I'm under the host.

Cheers!

:hi:

5. One year I introduced egg nog to a Pakistani friend
I had small glasses out for it, but he got a bigger cup and drank three glasses. I told him it wasn't a good idea, but he didn't believe me until he was sick all night long from the rich drink. I can only find the canned stuff where I live, but if you add cream and vanilla and nutmeg, it tastes as good as any I've had.

8. Do you know the purpose of the alcohol and/or heating the eggnog.
Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 09:35 AM by Chan790
It releases myristicin in the nutmeg, a mild hallucinogen. Of course carolers are merry, they're high.

It's a mild enough intoxicant that if you didn't know you were dosed with it, you wouldn't figure it out.

i do love it with a nice shot of rum (or two) my son has learned about it and spends part of his paycheck each week on a half gallon of it. it is also good in your coffee.
