WTF??? $370 dollars for my wife to stay in country
Edited on Sun Nov-22-09 08:10 PM by MattBaggins
To renew my wifes permanent resident card is going to cost me 370 fracking dollars? What the hell kind of bullshit fees is that for one stupid little I-90 form? What if I just don't re-apply and play stupid? She has never been asked to show the damn card anyway. 10 years here and two kids what are they going to do; deport the mother of two kids?

Highway fracking robbery.

3. Yes, they can and will deport her
and it will cost way more to fight it. Renew it and spare the kids the drama.

4. I.C.E. is a big racket these days.
To get my girlfriend over here (once I'm employed again) will be about $460 for the fee alone. I have an immigration lawyer I used for my previous wife (she's Canadian) so I'll probably get some advice on the proper form to get and fill out. Then we'll start the green card process...

I guess the exorbitant fees help Customs pay for building fences instead of bridges :eyes:

10. I went to New Zealand last Spring
as part of the requirements for getting her Visa (when we apply for it) and they were both appalled at my reason for going. No "That's wonderful! Have a great trip!" Just old people's antiquated reactions. So, I don't bring the subject up unless asked. However, I am going to put some of my trip photos on my Cowon S9 so I can show them over the holidays, without having to print out a bunch :)

5. Yes they will deport. Just get it in order and pay it. Believe me,
that fee is a lot lower than so many other fees the governments have. State, local and federal, all have fees. And 370 is low.
A friend had to get a lawyer for his mother's green card: $2800. Just for the lawyer, and no guarantee.
Ask yourself, is this country worth it?
A friend just got a red light ticket, $520.00. Plus traffic school fee.
Tax bills are now due. You would not believe the fee ... for vacant land. For property with no income.
Keep the old Bobby Fuller Four song in mind: "I fought the law, and the law won."

6. And the rest!
They took so long to process my naturalization that i had to re-apply (and pay!) for my "green card." My naturalization arrived before the renewed "green card."

7. If they do deport her, which they can and will do for the...
flimsiest of reasons should should she appear on their radar, there is a good chance she will NEVER be allowed back in the country.

Insane? Absolutely, but our immigration laws have never been based on fairness, common sense, or decency.

Pay the money or risk having something to get REALLY pissed about.

11. What , expected immigration laws in this country to be decent ?
be thankful they allowed her to get into the country and steal American Jobs , that is the vibe I get from many DUer's .

I payed much much more for my H1-B application , and I am going to pay even more for my Green Card application next year.

13. Seriously...?
I got my green card/permanent resident card in 1986, and I never had to renew it between then and when I left the U.S. in 2008. I didn't realize how much the rules had changed...

14. This is one of the reasons we haven't made any attempts with my husband
and are staying in Germany. The fees are atrocious (almost a thousand dollars) the process is invasive (medical tests, police background check) and it takes forever. No thanks!

You should just pay the fee though cause they will deport her if you just play dumb and don't take care of it. :-(
