Poll question: What's your favorite Vampire Movie?
I work nights at a movie theater so for the last three days I've been surrounded by "Twi-Hards" the fans of the gag-inducing "Twilight" series. So cheer me up, let me know people still enjoy REAL vampire flicks!

"Post your own favorite if it wasn't mentioned!"

8. Classic Hammer Christopher Lee Dracula films.
some of them are pretty formula, but I love the old bad movies, and I suspect Mrs Countdown thinks Mr Lee is pretty hot.

MST3K has ruined me for life.

16. I don't see "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't" on your list.
How can you beat Judd Hirsch as a disco-dancing Dracula?

It's obvious that you can't.

And Shadow of the Vampire would be my second favorite, followed closely by Murnau's Nosferatu.

18. 30 Days of Night
Edited on Sun Nov-22-09 11:51 PM by LostInAnomie
Although I found the ending kind of disappointing, it had the one thing I absolutely require of a vampire movie (and has been sorely lacking in the last 30 years): The vampires were actually monsters. They weren't some teenage girls masturbatory fantasy, some kind of quasi-super anti-hero, or a troubled, torn, and remorseful soul trapped in an undead body unwillingly killing the innocent. They were depraved, ugly monsters that looked at people as food and toyed with them like a cat does a mouse. It was a brilliant plot as well.

I really enjoyed Shadow of the Vampire for the same reasons.

I think a lot of people that say Nosferatu are buying into hype, or haven't actually seen the movie. Truthfully, it's not very good. The acting is ridiculous, even for the silent movie era. The plot is full of holes, unnecessary scenes, and unnecessary characters. There is very little actual vampiric content. The only real good thing about it is how shocking Max Schrek looked and how bizarre his behavior looked on film. Other than that it's just not very good.

19. That's a great point about 30 days
I'll need to read the graphic novel, because I found the adaptation disappointing in the way it was forced (by movie-length constraints) to compress the 30 days. But the vampires' monstrous nature was an excellent change from the charming and sexy vampire-about-town cliche.

Regarding Nosferatu, I like it for a bunch of reasons, though I accept that it's not the pinnacle of the silent era. The acting is indeed dreadful but I really appreciate it for some of the "special effects" even if these are primitive and obvious by today's standards.

I only just thought of it the moment I posted that. I'm sure a lot of vampire fans have never heard of it, since it doesn't involve blood-drinking or other classic aspects of the genre ;)

24. Every het male who was a teenager in the 80s remembers that film for two reasons.
1. Patrick Stewart
2. Steve Railsback, who later played "Duane Barry" in The X-Files.

What two reasons did you think I meant?

And none of my friends wanted to see it. I do think we saw The Stuntman in the theaters, though :D
