What a difference! The fire is nice, the smell is lovely and those Duraflames leave a horrible residue in your chimney - I can't imagine what kind of awful things are in them.

5. Probably plastic. And chemicals. Of various and unknown type

and quantity. If the financial situation is poor, do not burn the furniture, either. The paint, and wood treatment will smell bad also.
Do not burn pallets, etc., either, again wood treatment and chemicals.
Cedar is my favorite. If you can afford it, burn some cedar for me. Or pine.
