i loved it. screw the critics

yes, i'm talking new moon, the 2nd movie in the twilight series. and no, i am not a teenage girl. the critics HATE it. ebert gave it 1 star and his condescension drips all over his review. i especially love his comment about jacob and his pals being shirtless as if this is some kind of racist slight to american indians. i mean, please.

http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091118/REVIEWS/911199998/1023

(his users give it 2 1/2 stars). checks on rottentomatoes.com and imdb.com reveal the same results. critics just HATE this movie.

and note, i said MOVIE. not "film". this is not a "film". i find it pretentious in general, when people refer to "films". it's a fricken vampire and wolf movie. it's not a film.

cheesy? sure. but in a good way. sometimes , you just love to love a movie the critics hate. i don't know what it is. contrarianism? ebert imo USUALLY gets it right. he got it famously wrong on a clockwork orange of course.

the special effects are way better than the first one, not surprising considering the relatively low budget the first one had.

and yes, as ebert points out, it's a movie about teens that has (god forbid) no teenage sex! the horrors!

so, it's a fantasy in more ways than one :)

oh and btw, if you are looking for a good action movie rental, star trek is a good one. and this one got great reviews, fwiw. it's the first star trek movie imo that can stand alone simply as a great movie, not a great star trek movie. if you are at all familiar with the series , there are a lot of bits you can enjoy that you would miss if you were not. but either way, it's just a well done action flick with humor, great story flow, interesting characters, etc.

regardless, i just gotta give it two enthusiastic thumbs up.

4. My two tween girls HATE Twilight, their disdain for SPARKLY vampires
is quite harsh...

They are big fans of the Cirque du Freak series... So, I am afraid I will have to sit through the first Darren Shan movie.

5. You can love something, but still admit it's a piece of shit.
The original Adam West Batman movie

The Sound of Music

Lots of B horror movies and Japanese monster movies.

7. but i don't
think it's a POS. i think it's a good movie. not a FILM. a movie.

i don't like it because it's campy (a la adam west batman). i also don't consider it a "b" movie. i think it's a great movie. it's that simple. i was entertained, and i want to see it again. that pretty much says it all.

if i was to think of my favorite movies of all time (blade runner, godfather, the exorcist, chariots of fire), does this one match up? hell no. but it's a solid good movie.

a "b" horror movie to me would be army of darkness (love it), or darkman (love it).

6. I will not see New Moon, as I just know I will hate it, but
there is a certain pleasure in liking movies critics hate.

"Stay" (Ewan McGregor, Ryan Gosling) is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. Rotten Tomatoes thinks it is a pretentious piece of garbage. In this case, fuck Rotten Tomatoes.

8. lol hell ya!
i liked that movie too. if you like stay, i suggest you try "the vault" with adrien brody and kiera knightley. it's kind of a low key psychological/science fiction flick that grows on you as it goes on.
