Ladies: Who, in your opinion, makes the best jeans/corduroys?
I love cords in the winter. My two pair are becoming a bit ragged (lots of kitty claw hooks); I haven't bought any in a while and wonder what brands you like.

Any suggestions?

1. I like my St. John's Bay cords from Penny's
they had 'em in my perfect size (4P) - I got 'em in three different colors and love 'em :D

3. where do they sit on your waist?
I like 'em at the hips, not much higher. Are they flat-front? Thin wale?

I'll look online, thanks!

15. ok, good. Not so low there are butt-cleavage issues
and not so high to be cinched around the waist. Thanks for the input. I was going through some clothes I'd saved for about a decade and tried on a pair of pants -- they closed right at the level of my belly button, and it just felt so weird! Yuk! Have no idea why I ever thought that was remotely comfortable....

16. I think we thought it was comfortable "back then"
because we were not aware of the alternatives. I've always hated pants up to my waist because, well, I just don't have much of a waist - seems like my ribs and hipbones are fused

4. Gee Skittles
I never pictured you as a runt. 4P? You're pretty tiny for someone so gifted at kicking ass.

11. So I'm the same height
but I never wore a size 4! We'll see in a couple of months when I get back to that weight -- or near it. Maybe an 8 for me but I really have no clue. I'm about 150 now and wear anything from a 10 to a 14 depending on cut, maker, and age (I think they've changed their sizing).

And yeah, you probably can kick my ass. I've always been a wuss. I used to beat up on my little sister then one day she shot up to 5'10".

6. one more question - does their sizing run true?
So you usually buy 4s in other brands and Penny's 4 fits right?

22. I'm a 4p too. But 5 inches and 10lbs less than you.
even petite jeans/pants are still too long. The best ones I have found so far are called Seven. Normally expensive, but I have been finding them at TJ Maxx cheap.

7. Lately I've been buying at the Goodwill
We have sale days alternate Fridays -- everything is half price. Since I've been losing weight, I've gone down three sizes so I buy a pair at Goodwill wear them until they're too big and transition to a smaller size. For $4-6 a pair, it isn't a bad way to go.

I've been able to get Jones Jeans, Liz Claiborne, Ralph Lauren, Gloria V, and Tommy Hilfucker. Liz jeans and pants alway fit me very well and the Ralph's aren't too bad. I like the fabric better on the Ralph's. The Gloria V's were snug in the waist but fine other wise. I didn't like the Tommy's at all -- they just seemed to fit weirdly. The Jones were okay -- I prefer their regular pants to their jeans. Again, the price was right!

13. Gloria Vanderbilt's brand from Kohl's fit me perfectly!
I'm pretty curvy and they fit where they are supposed to. They don't leave that huge gap in the waist like in some brands. You wouldn't believe how hard that is to find.

18. Lee, Liz Claiborne, LL Bean
Edited on Sun Nov-22-09 08:02 AM by GoCubsGo
I have an hourglass figure and a high waist. They are about the only ones who make jeans and cords that I can wear that don't have huge gaps at the waistline. You have to be careful, however. All of them make some butt-crack cut pants. At least with Lee, they have a label on the waistband that tells where they sit (above hips, on waist...) Liz also makes two lower priced brands. One is called "Elizabeth." I have a pair of the jeans. They fit as well as the high-end ones. They also sell a line at Sears. I believe it's called "First Edition." I haven't tried any of their bottoms, but they have some nice shirts for the money.

I like St. John's Bay, too. Sears' "Classic Editions" okay, too.
