Children given gender-neutral names
One of my all-time favorite females is named Dana. :loveya:

A longtime family friend, female (now deceased), was named Marion, with the 'o'.

And this is a problem why, exactly?

1. They are a lot tougher on boys than on girls.
I went to school with a boy named Courtney and he was tormented about it all the way through grade school and middle school.

5. And my second name is Francis.
Which is given to boys -- with an 'i'. Frances, with an 'e', is given to girls.

4. My sister and I had the same name, though in a roundabout kind of way.
Terry was my first name, Theresa was her middle name, but she used Terri.

6. I have a gender-neutral name
Growing up, I wasn't happy with it because all the famous people with the same name were men and I felt the name was boyish. It also bugged me because people were always trying to lengthen it. Eventually, I came to accept and love my name and am glad that it is relatively unique.

I discovered the fun of having a gender neutral name in high school. In my sophomore year, I took the Army Aptitude test. I checked the 'female" box. When I got the results, the Army determined I would make an excellent secretary, teacher or nurse. In my senior year I took the test again but checked the "male" box on the form. For some strange reason, the Army suddenly decided I was brilliant and would have a great future as a scientist, engineer or even a pilot!

9. It's a problem because people make it a problem
My nickname is a name that is traditionally male and I spent a lot of time patiently explaining why I had a boy's name before I finally abandoned it.

I'm not sure what about a name is masculine or feminine except human construction of it.
