1. I went to high school (late 70's) with a girl named Alex. Not Alexandria or anything - just Alex.
Her younger sister was named Kevin. Her parents REALLY wanted a boy!

5. I have a woman friend named Joel.
My fifth-grade teacher had a sister named Werdna, which was her father's name, spelled backwards. No shit.

8. "Werdna"? Could have been worse, I suppose,
....if her dad had been known as 'Kid'. :D

12. I know a lady of my Mother's generation (mid 80's) named Sydney.
Was that a woman's name in England before the man's name "Sidney" was more familiar? or what?

What else would explain the spelling difference?
