I'm gonna do it. Favorite Beatles song?
How could I possibly do a poll with this question?

Listening to Stones' Ruby Tuesday at the moment too...

50. Currently it's "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window"
But in roots rock n roll, they do a wicked version of "Rock and Roll Music"
Then there's "Girl"
"I Saw Her Standing There"
"Baby You Can Drive My Car"
"Within You Without You"

15. That one reminds me of the skating rink---
They used to play that over the loudspeakers (wow, looks like I am revealing my age here) at the ice rink, and "Hey Jude" was the song that we used to go and hold hands with the boys and skate. Too funny> You know, when you really look back on it, the Beatles and also as individuals had such an enormous body of music. I would hope that the younger people get introduced to it, since there really is nothing like it!

12. Depends on whether it's an actual collaboration or a solo song under the Beatles banner
I see those as two completely different kinds of "Beatles songs," even thought it wasn't until after the breakup that Lennon and McCartney started saying "I wrote this, he wrote that" and we found out that sometimes all four of them didn't end up on certain records.

I like it all...there are actually only a few Beatles songs that I "dislike"...but in 2009, I usually head for "Revolver" and everything that followed, rather than go backward.

First song that comes to mind (and the first one I wanted to hear on the new remastered CDs) is "Dear Prudence." I live everything about that one, and in the new master, McCartney's bass is three dimensional. I also like "She Said She Said," and for McCartney songs the first pick would be "Helter Skelter" followed by "Martha My Dear"...

...for early songs, Lennon's performances on "This Boy" and "Anna."

Edited on Sat Nov-21-09 03:11 AM by lunamagica
Can't get enough of it.

But many, many of their songs could qualify as my favorite.

Hey Jude, Yesterday, Let it Be, For no One, and so many others.

ETA some of their earlier stuff: Please, Please Me, Things we said today, All my loving, Michelle.....

Sorry, I can't pick just one!

14. That is a hard question.
I am guessing that there are a lot of younger people that are wondering why we think the Beatles were even relevant! I liked them, but I can't think of a favorite song right off the top of my head. They had so many that were worthy of note. I don't think there will ever be a group that would ever top them. Good post, though!! We all live in a Yellow Submarine?? For some reason, I always will like that one:)

19. I think the first Beatles 45 I ever bought
was "All You Need Is Love," and it's still a pretty great song. On the other end of the spectrum, "The Long and Winding Road."

For Harrison, "Something" and "My Sweet Lord."

George was my favorite Beatle at the time.

22. A Day In The Life
There is just something about that song. I believe that it shows both how the Beatles were great musicians and songwriters. In addition, the lyrics are some of their best. I remember when I was about 12 or 13, a local radio station was taking votes on the greatest rock 'n roll song of all time. By the end of the day, A Day In The Life won, hands down.

28. This minute it's "Fixing a Hole" but ask me later and it might
be another :-).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10vU7Qo-NlU

I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go
I'm filling the cracks that ran through the door
And kept my mind from wandering
Where it will go
And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong
I'm right
Where I belong I'm right
Where I belong.
See the people standing there who disagree and never win
And wonder why they don't get in my door.
I'm painting the room in a colourful way
And when my mind is wandering
There I will go.
And it really doesn't matter if
I'm wrong I'm right
Where I belong I'm right
Where I belong.
Silly people run around they worry me
And never ask me why they don't get past my door.
I'm taking the time for a number of things
That weren't important yesterday
And I still go.
I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go.

36. Across the Universe
It was the first song I heard in December, 1980, after finding out that John had been killed. In that context, I still cry every time I hear it.

I also love "In My Life". What a perfect, simple song that encompasses it all.

As for LP's (yes, Children, that's how we used to listen to music--and you had to flip it over manually!) every true Beatles' fan will tell ya what I will: the Brit versions of Rubber Soul and Revolver are the best collections of songs ever!

Classic Beatles sweet romantic loveliness that doesn't get nearly enough recognition.

Some others:
"Across the Universe"
"I Want You/She's So Heavy"
"A Day in the Life"
"Eleanor Rigby"
"Girl"
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
"Good Morning, Good Morning"
"Penny Lane"
"Cry Baby Cry"
"Hey Bulldog"
"Only a Northern Song"

And many more, those are just the ones that popped immediately in my mind as being favorites.

My 16-year-old is very jealous that I was a teen in the 60's. She knows the group only through their CDs, movies, and old news footage. She'll never experience what it was like to purchase the vinyl, rip open the cellophane, and put a new Beatles album on the turntable for the first listen. Magic.
