This is from my sister re: night vision
Ever heard of it?

I can’t see ANYTHING except lights, and the headlights of oncoming traffic are so blinding it makes me dizzy. The other night, I had to tell the boy I can’t drive him to his night classes anymore. I thought I was gonna get us killed. Even walking last night, I had to hang on to the girl whenever cars were around just to stay on the sidewalk.

("the boy" and "the girl" = her son & daughter)

1. Cataracts?
She should see an eye doctor (of course you already know this).

but I almost refuse to drive at night unless I am very familiar with the area. And I have been to the doctor about it.

5. Sounds like cataracts...I work for an Ophthalmologist..
He does a lot of cataract surgeries and decreased vision due to glare a big problem when you have them.

Good luck!

7. if it's cataracts it can be fixed -- and cheaply, get her to an eye doc now
unfortunately there are other issues that can't be fixed

your ability to see at night supposedly declines precipitously between age 40 and age 80, which is why people in their 70s and up often don't like to drive at night, but apparently there is some individual variation because i know of people over 80 who can still drive in the dark and some much younger who can't

only the eye doctor can tell her for sure but cataracts are a very common, and very easy to fix issue, and everyone i can think of who has their cataracts removed has been delighted

you can get them in your 40s and 50s even, esp. if you have light colored eyes

i don't know your sister's age or eye color but i'm saying, it is definitely worth looking into, because it might be a fixable problem

i'd investigate before i quit driving at night altogether, that becomes v. impractical during the long days of winter
