Who else is hiding out on Thanksgiving?
We actually told people we were going away that week so we don't have to attend any dysfunctional family get togethers. Sleep, nap, sleep, nap. That's my plan.

Nobody's finding me and Mrs. gratuitous this year at Thanksgiving in our west coast motel room. Oops, I've said too much!

3. Working, so our Thanksgiving is this Sunday.
I always do the turkey and everything, so if I don't do it while I'm home this weekend, the kids will be SOL.

And I won't get any turkey, either, if I don't do the cooking.

I have nobody to celebrate it with here. Too much effort to cook for two people and I can't get anything I need for it other than a turkey. WHHHHHAAAAA. Have fun hiding out Gray.

24. It's your party dude
you want to serve Austrian wine instead of classic French, more power to you. I'll bring a flask....

I'll be wearing a traditional Native American costume to celebrate my heritage and HerrHerr will be wearing a pair of 3 dollar Buffalo Bills cosy pants we bought for him at the outlet stores when we were last in America.

Since we don't celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving over here, we are combining the two to maximize our happiness. Hope you don't mind.

8. Me and BF have dinner at my dad's on T-day but....
...have to put appearance at BF's folk's house on Saturday.

That's the part that fills me with dread. They're ultra-fundies. The dad is a deacon--whatever the hell that is--and mom is a "homemaker" straight out of the Sarah Palin/Dr Laura Feed 'em and Fuck 'em Guide to Good House-Wifing. I know they are very much against sex outside of marriage which me and BF have lots of...cuz its good...and I swear every time the woman looks at me I hear the word "slattern" echoing in my head.

Paradoxically, they gush about his time in the Army (nevermind how that fucked-up his head) but they also blame it for his "chasing hard drink and easy women". What the hell did they think soldiers do, have quilting bees?

Whatever. In an hour I'm going to be drunk and easy.

11. Better, invite them all,
but make sure that you tell them that you'll provide (before turkey-eating) a PowerPoint presentation of a certain 'thread that never dies,' with some footnotes on every single post made in there, and some thesis on why someone posted in there and what it means regarding climate change, poverty rates, Marxist-Leninist theory and Carrie Prejean, using Wikipedia entries. Get a bright laser pointer. Make it fun.

The last few years I've ditched my dysfunctional family to spend Thanksgiving volunteering at a soup kitchen, and spend Christmas with people who would otherwise be alone. Then I sneak off to spend the rest of the day hanging with friends. Wish I had thought of this years ago. Best holidays EVAR.

59. All my kids have other things going on that day.
That is fine. They should live their own lives.

Last year, my oldest daughter wanted to make Thanksgiving for us. She was living in her own house for the first time and it was important to her. We had a great time.

This year, we are eating out at a Thanksgiving buffet. I am so relieved not to have to do anything but eat out with my husband and go home.

We told my mother that we have plans. (It's true). I don't spend any more time around her than necessary. She would ruin the day.
