Do you ever wonder when your luck will run out?
I sure do. I've had it sweet and clean for 52 years now, but in the back of my head I'm always wondering, "Is this sustainable, or is it just the way my fate will go?"

But, truthfully I think it could all tank in a blink. And that I'll be just like all the downtrodden and unfortunate people that seem to be all over the place.

How about you all? Do you feel fairly secure, or do you wonder about the 'bottom dropping out'?

If history is an indicator, I should be OK. But I'm not so sure about history being the best of indicators.

Maybe I should trust the system and be grateful for what I've had and do have now.

1. "Will" run out?
I'm still wondering what I should have done when my luck did run out.

3. I wonder when my good luck will come
Edited on Wed Nov-18-09 10:54 PM by lunamagica
I've had it bad for 40+ years now, and I wonder, will it always be like this, is this the way my fate will go *always*

Good to know some people have it sweet and clean....maybe someday I will, also.

6. I used to - I shouldn't have
It was pretty brutal when it ran out. I did and do appreciate what I have, because there are legions of people who have it much worse than I, but it doesn't change all the crap that's happened to me in the last 5 years.

I should add, I've had good luck and bad luck. Right now things are going well for me, but I'm aware that that could change any time.

11. I think this way all the time, Johnny
:toast:

Mine usually takes the form of "well, no one has cancer yet, no one's been hurt in any car wrecks, no house fires . . . so when will the other shoe drop?"

(Although we did rack up $2000 in vet bills this summer, and we still haven't recovered. Poor baby kitty. She's fine now but it was a long, hard summer for her.)

13. I used to think it ran out in 2006
when I was diagnosed with a really rare chronic blood disorder. But since I haven't had a stroke, heart attack, bleeding episode or developed leukemia (all possibilities with this disease) I don't think so anymore.

14. What little luck I ever had ran out years ago.
Yes, it CAN tank in a blink. I was in my job for more than a dozen years when Idiot Boy got selected. Up to that time, my biggest worry was whether or not my boss would retire before I got my 30 years in. Well, after his re-election and a long battle with some Bush political appointees, my employer's funding was finally yanked in mid-2007. My job of 20 years is gone. I haven't held a permanent job since, and still no replacement in sight. I am preparing to sell my home, as what little money I have left is drying up. I never thought I'd ever be in this position, yet here I am. Almost 49 years old and facing the likelihood of having to move back in with Mom and Dad...

16. My "luck" has always been pretty wierd, but I have been where I want to be
for the last few years, and I really enjoy it.

Since it's all pretty much out of your control, why worry? It will either continue or it won't.
Enjoy it while ya got it.

so right now it appears we are on the downswing. :-)

21. Just to clarify.... by sweet and clean, I mean that I've had a good life.
Not wealthy by any stretch. Probably well below middle class, in fact. But I've enjoyed so many wonderful travel experiences and relationships, and have been mostly free of pain and disease. Haven't had to endure the types of trauma and hardships I see around me, and even here on DU

But I still wonder if things could go south, and maybe it's that little notion running around in the back of my head that's responsible for me staying tuned in enough to prevent some kind of harsh fall.

Luck is maybe another word for fortune, and I consider myself to have lived a fortunate life. I may take credit for some of it, but something else is working for me too. Some intangible. The same intangible that could work against me one day.

22. Our re-fi has taken nearly 4 months to...
complete...She called just now and said it looks like a go for signing tomorrow or Monday.

Honestly, we thought our luck had run out...maybe not.

I'm thinking maybe it's about time I do get some.
