Tomorrow I start prepping for my colonoscopy on Friday
then Saturday I have to drink prep-drinks for a cat scan. I am going to spend three days either prepping or having medical tests done on me. Now maybe we can get to the bottom of what is wrong with my tummy!

5. Eew. Good luck.
The preparation is the worst part of the colonoscopy. Oddly, having a periscope shoved up ones ass is actually no big deal.

7. The prep tastes bad, and you can expect to need to be near a bathroom for a few hours
but other than that, the colonoscopy is pretty simple. I was put under a general anesthesia for mine, woke up feeling like nothing had ever happened. The only proof I had was that they gave me a picture of my colon. The nurse told me to put it in the family album--because there's at least one ass in every family.

Hang in there, sweetie!

As several folks have said, the prep is the worst part!

I sure hope you get some answers...

14. My dear grasswire...
Sorry, I have no idea. This is a question for your doctor.

My suspicion is that you drink something without sugar in it. Otherwise I think your blood sugar could get way messed up...

But I'm not sure, sorry.

:hi:

29. I'll be with you in spirit...
Upstate NY here.

Today I was not supposed to eat any fruit or veggies, but I just realized that the tuna sandwich I bought had minuscule chucks of chopped up carrots. x(

Diabetic prep tomorrow...all liquid diet, then pills and 2 liters of the liquid tomorrow night. The pharmacist said that the lemon/lime flavoring masks the taste the best.

I really wish you well Roon...GI tests are no fun in general, but the colonoscopy itself is a piece of cake.

Please let us know how you did!

10. You will do fine!
It wasn't traumtic in any way when I had one done -- easy peasy. One word of advice: use very soft moist towelettes on your tush when you are doing your colonoscopy prep or, even better, rinse off with a hand-held shower head in the tub. The first time I did prep my ass was chapped beyond belief and painful from using TP to clean up. I got wise the second go around.

Good luck in finding out what is wrong!

34. For cancer, I've read that they are working on a fecal matter test.
For polyps, they will still have to go in and look.

35. I did this last May and the two-liters of electrolyte is the worst part.
Here's the brand I was given: HalfLytely (more info at the link)

Now, the instruction on the kit said to drink one 8oz glass every ten minutes, but my doctor has said to do that every 15 minutes. I forgot that bit of advice and took the liquid every ten minutes. The result was that I just couldn't get my stomach to accept that last glassful. Next time, I'll do it every fifteen minutes. If you've gotten similar instructions, make sure with your doctor. If they advise a longer wait between quaffs, then you can probably get it all in you.

Oh, and though no one told me the lemon or lime flavoring was the best choice, that's what I used and it helped in ignoring the "flavor" of the electrolytes ;)

You may get lucky enough to remain conscious during the procedure as I did and watch on the monitor as they snake the camera around, squirting water from time to time to clear the walls for better inspection. I felt nothing other than one time when he had to press on my abdomen to help his instrument make a turn. Other than that, it's really kind of cool watching it all take place :)

Edited on Wed Nov-18-09 11:15 PM by MadMaddie
I had colon surgery last October and I feel much better now that the plumbing is working correctly. Mine was a birth defect "Redundant Colon"...

The prep sucks but once it's over it's over. Oh yea you your digestive system will be the cleanest it's ever been...

Good luck and I hope they find what's going on with your tummy!!
