the diversity of my boring day
woke to dogs barking at a horse in the yard (wasn't supposed to be there) fed various critters, drank two cups of coffee, waited for the sun to warm up a bit, FINALLY went and rehung a gate that fell over like two months ago. Kids had set a new post for me a month or more ago but I was too picky to let them hang the gate so of course it didn't get done until now. Sigh. Turned a mare and filly out that had been mooching feed for too long. Back to the house for lunch (popcorn, heh) and some phone calls. Tried to find out how to file a claim an a young bull that got hit by a truck last December. I'm a little slow on paperwork - and there is a 2 year statute of limitations so for me that is actually pretty timely. Guy never called back. Got out some round steak to thaw for dinner and also roasted some soup bones and started a big pot of broth. Made a loaf of bread, changed the cat box, started a fire, fed pets and now I am fighting with the stupid oven trying to keep it hot enough to cook the "Swiss steak" I didn't have enough sense to put in the crock pot earlier.

I'm ready for bed. What a boring day. I hate winter, there is too much DARK.

3. oh I know, I'm not really complaining -
I just seem to have a lot of trouble getting anything real done, and then it gets dark, ya know?

2. Yes, it could be worse. "Started a fire". That could be very groovy,
such as in a wood burning stove, or a wood burning fireplace. And the house didn't burn down. But, are you burning the furniture, or old pallets, or shipping crates, or do you have nice wood?
Do you realize what a cord costs here in Los Angeles?
Anyway, I find myself to be a lot of fun, so I'm never bored, and I'm happy to be alive for another day. And I take joy in enjoying what I eat, just a sandwich tonight, and it makes it all worthwhile.
PS Winter can be very cozy.

5. fire in a fireplace - for heat (old house)
good mesquite wood that gets cut by a cousin in exchange for letting him cut for himself, so that is a good deal, for sure. I'm not actually bored but as I sat thinking about what I did today it seemed like a kind of unproductive and boring little list.

The last time I made this dish everybody in the house was gone and I had leftovers for a week. 4 in the house now - won't be any leftovers tomorrow, I bet.:D

8. I love old houses. They have character. And creaks and groans.
And mesquite. Nice. I like the cedar but also pine. The cedar burns nice and slow all night long.

6. pretty good but it probably should have been another foot deeper
gate is small and corrals are falling apart, so it should stand as long as the rest of it:P
