3. After Duane's death, on ABC's "In Concert"...
...the Allmans appeared on a double bill with the Marshall Tucker Band, and when they performed Whippin' Post, Gregg sang "I try to believe...tehere ain;t no such thing....as dyin'..."

It was cold chills time.

Later, when Frank Zappa added the song to his repertoire, that's how it was performed. Decades later, cold chills again.

10. Very cool!
That tandem lead line is simple in terms of the notes, but I'm guessing it becomes less simple when you have to play it in perfect unison with another musician.

15. thanks
Yeah it's really pretty simple but it sounds really cool. The drummer and bass player really most of the work on this one. The tricky pary is that big walk up near the end, miss one note and it's all over, it's damn near impossible to catch back up after that, for me anyway....

I've been having trouble with youtube off and on too. But if you want, you can check us out here, there are some songs in audio format including a version of whipping post that is probably better than the one on the video.

18. Hey guitar man---thanks, just listened to Whipping Post and a couple of others
will listen to the rest tomorrow...very nice and soulful. One of these days I really gotta drive to Chicago by way of Tulsa instead of Denver and time it to catch one of your gigs....good stuff G-man.....I been OK I guess; one of the slowest year for gigs in many years though, although in a way I don't even care that much...kinda tired of being in bands where I'm a hired hand and don't have much input into either the material nor how it's presented. Still do one of good old Sam's songs: Goin' To The Woods, once in a while ,and think about how lucky I've been to be a nothing special sax player ( I'm better on harp and vocals, though improving on tenor) and yet have had both Bobby Keys and Sam in my life for awhile, and to have had the opportunity to learn so damn much from both. Not to mention the blessing of having Sam as my dear friend....i'm glad for you that you're in such a soulful kickass band, and thanks so much for the link......abq e streeter-------and back atcha::hi: :yourock:

12. My only complaint with the FZ version...
...is the middle section. The bass is all wrong, that "oompa-loompa" thing, and Frank starts noodling in his solo. The song comes ripping out of the gates and roaring back at the end, but the middle section...no matter which version I've heard (the "Them or Us" version or the one you posted, from "Does Humor Belong In Music?")...is where Frank just loses the song. You can see that he just stops before going back into it. But yeah, Martin tears it up, for sure.

16. You have to check out some of the live versions from 1988.
The guitar solo vamp is just a typical blues riff in A. Add the horn section, and 3 guitars, and it's brilliant.

I been lied to. I don't know why I let that mean woman make me a fool. She took all my money, wrecked my new car. Now she's with one of my goodtime buddies, they're drinkin' in some crosstown bar.

Shit.

My friends tell me
That I have been such a fool.
And I got to stand there and take it, baby
All for loving you.
Drown myself in sorrow
As I look at what you've done.
Nothing seems to change.
The bad times stay the same, and

I.Can't.Run.

Sometimes I feel...
