6. Another theme seems to be the planet Saturn.
Rings around a planet = sci-fi movie.

5. I have Forbidden Planet saved on the TIVO.
I love both movies, so I'm going to vote BOTH.

7. I voted for Forbidden Planet.
I just like it better. They go off of Earth and it's more Star Trekky.

9. Forbidden Planet was a more original idea for a movie.
That and the fact that it was actually interesting. Things happened in it. It wasn't just some alien dude that looked like a human giving morality speeches and a big robot standing around.

12. Except it is based on Shakespeare's "The Tempest".
I guess if you are going to steal a plot, steal from the very best.

13. At least it wasn't another "You've gone too far, mankind! Change your ways!" turd.
Back then, that was the plot of about every other sci-fi movie to come out.

14. The films with that type of story line can be directly related to the
unleashing of nuclear weapons on the world.

There was a real and pervasive fear of global nuclear war throughout the fifties and sixties, so this meme was a common one in movies of that time.

16. Yeah, but that doesn't make it interesting or original.
Especially when the most interesting thing in the movie (Gort) doesn't do shit.
