6. there are a lot of different methods
they all rely on a simple concept - the hiccups are basically a muscle spasm in the throat. Swallowing over and over and over as many times as possible works like a mini massage to make it stop.

Sugar makes lots of saliva, which you'll swallow repeatedly. Drinking water backwards is supposed to keep you from giant gulps. But you can drink a full glass of water without the scene - the trick is to take minisips - but take as many little sips one after another as you can, to force the swallowing function as many times as you can.

I get hiccups as a reaction to hot peppers, but I love curries and mexican food. My life's a lot better now that I understand them and can deal with it - a few sips of water and I'm good to go.

19. I get them from beer
My mom has crazy loud screaming hicups.....when she was in the ICU after a brain aneurysm and a lobotomy, she got the hic cupps the drs rushed in. We had to explain this was normal.

Stand up if you need to. Stretch until you feel the muscles in your diaphragm stretching. You have to stretch it to get the spasm out.

take a deep breath

drink about a glass full of water, while holding breath...

then continue to hold breath for 3 seconds more after drinking water.

works for me.
