I was almost killed this morning. No joke, I am still shaking.
Okay,

so for some strange reason, my cat peed on my bed this morning. He had never ever done that before but it angered me that on my day off I had to get up at 7:30 AM to take care of this. I get up, stick the sheets in the washer and grab my laundry soap and the bed comforter. I look up 3 laundry mats that are near my home, grab a stack of quarters and head out the door.

I find the first laundry mat and it is within a few blocks from my home and it looks okay. (understand that my house is 1/2 way between the "bad" area of Wichita and the "good" area...it could be a crap shoot as to safety.)

I go in with my breakfast a book and the comforter and after finding the biggest front load commercial washer and spending 4.50 for the washer get it going and sit down to eat my breakfast and read my book while the magical washer cleans the cat pee out of my comforter. The front of the laundry mat where I was sitting is built with huge plate glass windows and decorative (probably preventative too) bars. There are 3 chairs so I take the end one farthest from the door.

All is good and after only 20 minutes or so, the washer stops. I get up and right across the room is the perfect huge dryer and it is 8 minutes for a quarter. I put a dollar in and sit down, this time in the middle chair against the windows because the other chair I had been sitting in wasn't that great and the middle chair looked better.

About 10 minutes into the dry cycle, something went wrong. I do not know if I heard it, felt it or what, but I stood up and screamed as a car backed into the windows I was sitting at. Had I stayed sitting in the first chair I would be dead or severely injured right now because huge chunks of glass ended up in that chair. The chair I was in had little shards all over it and me and it was pushed 6-12 inches from the starting position.

The driver of the car RAN and left his girl there to deal with the mess.

I was offered an EMS ride which I refused after the police checked my back to make sure I was not cut up.

I came home, took a shower and had hubby check me over. I have little red spots all over my left back/shoulder area and my back is jacked up but otherwise I am fine. It could have been MUCH worse!

3. "Had I stayed sitting in the first chair..."
...but you didn't, so your Guardian Angel, or whatever you believe in, was with you today, and isn't finished with you yet. You still have things left to do.

Glad you're OK.

6. Holy shit! The first part of you story is super annoying an the second part is super scary.
By "super annoying" I don't mean annoying to read, I mean I understand your annoyance at your cat's behavior. What an insane way to start the weekend.

I slept in, then had some left over pizza, and now I am on DU. I am having a mellow day.

7. the owner of the laundrymat showed up...asked me if I was okay
I told him I thought so

then I said it had been 10 years since I had last been to a laundry mat and hopefully it would be another 10 years before I go to another one

I have pictures of the window and the car and the chairs, but don't know how to download them from my phone.

16. Damn freaky event there, gb.
Maybe, ultimately, there'll be a larger slant to all this. Perhaps in a few days or so you'll see how the chain of events led to some reassesment of the gift of life. Maybe not. But at least you're still here, and not in the hospital. Or worse.

All the best as you sort out the weirdness of this.

17. Damn!
I've often suspected my cat was plotting to kill me. It's scary to have one that can put a plan into action.

Glad to hear they aren't the only ones with 9 lives.

29. makes you think how quickly you could lose it all and what really matters and a bedspread doesn't
later, I thought how would the police tell my family? My car was in the parking lot and I had left my purse and things in my car.

Would they have found my keys in my pocket and realized which car was mine and then find my husbands number to get him to the hospital...

all kinds of thoughts like that

22. oh boy why don't more people understand abt soft tissue injury?
it develops like film, you had no idea that you were "all right" because soft tissue injury develops and is actually "nothing" when it first happens and you're shocky, and it gets worse and worse for 72 hours

i think at this point you need a lawyer, i did pretty much the same thing you did and because of my stupidity in refusing the ambulance i got a few hundred dollars for what turned out to be two years of pain (and for many people a lifetime of pain)

if you're in an accident and it's CLEARLY someone else's fault, it is just plain stupid not to go to the ER and get it documented that you were in the accident

esp. since you weren't in a vehicle i think now you will have a lot of trouble collecting and will need a lawyer

i just hope you don't have pain as long as i had pain, i still kick myself because i even knew better but i think i was in shock when the lady rear-ended me...i knew what to do and still i'm trying to bull it through and pretend i'm ok -- i cost myself a lot of money and a lot of pain by trying to be a nice southern lady and pretend i had the stiff upper lip

"my back is jacked up" you're not OK you have only one back...

sorry to be so harsh i'm yelling at myself, not you

get well soon
