I need to vent...
I am taking an argument + ethics class in collage. We have had a full round of debates, we each defended a position and attacked a position.

For these debates, I did a lot research and practiced my speeches. I won both of my debates.

We are now in the second round of debates. No one would challenge my proposal and no one would accept my challenge of their proposal. The professor, who I deeply respect, decided I would not debate. I was given an alternative assignment. I told my professor I wanted to debate, and she just smiled at me.

I love formal debate, but I don't get to debate because I was really good during the first two debates. So now I am feeling disappointed and I am feeling cheated out of my opportunity to debate.

This OP doesn't really have a point, I am just whining and moaning.

1. sometimes you get punished for being good
i had a job for many years and never a promotion. Loved the job, loved the perks, but I wanted something more. My supervisor at the time told me, that I did my job so well it would be too hard to replace me so I got stuck for a while longer until I got a new supervisor and basically told him I would be gone in a year if they didn't help me out.

so in a way, I can understand you dilemma.

4. Ouch. Your dilemma was worse than mine.
Mine is just school, yours was your livelihood.

2. You could post your debate challenge in GD.
Although I'm not sure if "debate" would ensue, depending on the topic it could be lively.

3. My dear ZombieHorde...
That's totally unfair, much like life, unfortunately...

Obviously you are way better than anyone in your class, and the professor knows it.

I hear you!

It sucks to be that good.

5. Thanks. Most people don't log onto DU, or similar site, and practice arguing everyday.
Frequent DUers have skills many others don't.

6. Now if you were any good, you would have persuaded your professor to put you in.

8.  I am good, but she is excellent. Besides...
I didn't want to question my professor's decision in front of the whole class. Seems disrespectful to me.

I may go in during her next office hours and either politely argue my stance or beg to debate without an audience. I need to think about my approach, I have a very good relationship with my professor, and I would like to retain this goodness. Fortunately, she is very rational, so I have that going for me.
