Just about to get in the car
to travel 500 hundreds to visit my mom for her 60th birthday.

We rarely ever speak. We haven't seen each other in years.

She has a car and works. I am often bedridden because of my pain and disability and I am on a fixed income. Yet we are only seeing each other because I am the one traveling. Does that make any sense? That is the way it has always worked, or 40 years. That says a lot about our relationship.

I really don't know why I am doing this. But she insists that our family is close and we all love each other. So of course I would come.

We have a worse case scenario right now with me being in horrible pain because of lack of sleep and lots of rain aggravating all my pain. JennaLaw is feeling sick, and both of us really hope it isn't going to turn into anything serious. She really does not need to get sick while she is on the road traveling just to haul me around to someplace I don't want to go.

Is it too late to cancel this entire trip? :(

Fuck!

1. hey ThomCat, I hope the trip is OK

Sometimes, doing things like this that I DON'T want to do, I take the time to analyze the situation. And decide that I'm going to decide, based on this trip / event/ whatever, how to handle things from now on.

So maybe you watch what happens this weekend, and then give yourself permission to opt out of all future events.

Make this the last one. And tell your mom so, in person. Tell her you love her (even if you don't, really) but you can't do this anymore.

Make it a trip for your freedom from this emotional and physical obligation.

5. Thank you very, very much.

We are going, and hoping we won't regret this.

On the way out of town we are stopping at a pet groomer so the dogs all get their nails trimmed. So that is our last chance to decide that this is all too much.

The dogs are all excited. They know that we're going someplace and that they get to go with us. I think that is the best reason to go. The dogs will love the trip and get a fun vacation. :P

4. I would cancel given the info you provided.
to be honest I have family members that purposefully moved far away from all relatives eons ago. now that they are older they are isolated and hate it. the problem is that they won't travel. but traveling to see them is so costly and time consuming that it is really a sacrifice instead of a pleasant experience. so i understand your situation.

6. I have pre-emptively cancelled previous trips
before they ever seriously got off the ground.

This is the first time in years that we got this far in planning that we actually had reservations at a hotel and were packing the car. Once you get this far, it feels like giving up to not go.

So we're going. But we might turn around if anything happens.

Heading out right now. :hi:

8. Trip update
We are here in Syracuse. LONG drive up and we picked up Fangrrl at her college on the way. So we have a small DU meetup of sorts going on LOL

Thom can not use the touchpad on my laptop easily, so will probably not be online much till we return home on Sunday night.

We are both tired and sore from the ride up. Hopefully my cold/sore throat/sinus whatver is under control. Going to grab some sleep now and get ready for the family event tomorrow. YAY!

'night all
