Okay, the trailer for The Road....
It shows a little hope, a sliver of hidden optimism a sense that the Road will give us options, just like Robert Frost's provocative poem of the same name.

The book, not so much as a hint of a wisp of optimism.

Fucking Hollywood, they a took book that spooked the shit out of me with despair, desperation and a depression so deep I hid under the covers on my bed sucking my thumb for two weeks after finishing the book and turned it into the feel good movie of the Holiday season...

1. that's too bad
it's been a struggle for me to read, and I put it down for The Help, which I highly recommend you read. powerful, Mississippi in the early 60's, tells the story of Black women's view of working for White women. We lived through that time?

how about you, are you more well?

2. Better by the day although it's taking longer to get my strength back...
Going back into the hospital for another look see at the lungs.

3. At least you had a little time at home.
I would go nuts in the hospital for that long.

My stay in January was six days, and I was frantic to get out of there, even though I was still tired and weak.

Please keep healing. I like seeing your posts here.

5. Remember what they did to "The Sun Also Rises?"
Rearranged a couple of lines at the end, added one comment, and turned an existential anti-religious ending into a sermon.

6. "not so much as a hint of a wisp of optimism."
I disagree.

The ending of the book was the only bit of light that made the preceding slog tolerable.

7. Just finished reading The Road tonight
and I've been sitting here feeling the same sense of despair that you describe. That book is going to haunt me for a long time. I will see the movie if for no other reason than it has Viggo in it and I'm a sucker for Viggo.
