I Find Out in a Few Hours if I Have to Be Hospitalized

I had surgery (endometrial ablation) on July 23, and developed a severe post-operative infection. I've been taking Cipro and Flagyl (gag) and in a few hours I find out if my WBC count is down. If it isn't, I may have to be admitted to the hospial for IV antibiotics or even more surgery to remove the fallopian tube. Losing the tube woudn't be bad, but more surgery is not a fun idea at all.

1. Oh man REP, hope all goes well. I had something similar happen a

couple of years ago. It's not fun to sit for days on I.V. Make sure you check for autoimmune diseases if the infections continue. That was the only way I found out what was going on with me... Take care, hope to see you back, and healthy, SOON!

I have a form of rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and advanced non-diabetic kidney disease. I do, however, have many working parts - that's why I had the surgery!

on the few occasions I've been through it I thank my lucky stars that it's now and not one hundred years ago.

6. Anesthesia is the Bad Part

I tend to have severe breathing difficulties when anesthestized - like rales and crackles, and apparently I 'buck' pretty hard when intubated. At least that's what the ansthesiologist and my surgeon said. All I know is that we all agree: no more surgery!

11. I'd ask for a different anaesthesiologist

and make sure it's an 'anaesthesiologist'. Sometimes they try to cheap on you with an 'anaesthetist'-- different animal, not an MD.

14. No - I'm The Problem

I have severe mixed apnea and severe asthma plus very small airways and the connective tissue disease I have restricts movement of my diaphragm in certain positions. Every surgery I've ever had has been a problem. For the last two, I had very good anesthesiologists, and never stopped breathing (as I had during other surgeries).

they will only operate as a last resort. I've been thinking about you these past few days. Keep me posted, I am pulling for you.

I had surgery in 1990, and six months later developed a nasty staph infection that had me hospitalized for three weeks . . . when I got home, I still had to have intravenous antibiotics for three weeks . . . my arm looked like a pin cushion by the time it was done . . . and the little baggies of medicine cost over $300 apiece . . . at one a day, it's a damn good thing I had insurance at the time . . .

More and more women are suffering from this since they don't keep you in the hospital prophylactically for the procedure anymore.

I really hope you don't have to be but if you do it beats the hell out of an untreated infection.

I had developed an infection, but it was cleared up within a week. I hope yours can be taken care of without you being hospitalized, but I know sometimes that's the best route.

30. I Seem To Be Okay!

My WBC count is back to normal. I have five days more of antibiotic therapy, and then I'll be rechecked, but it looks as though I get to stay home with my cats.
