Need help finding an old movie title. A New England lady in early 20th century is a drug addict.

Need help finding an old movie title. A New England lady in early 20th century is a drug addict.
Probably morphine or some opiate, but I think she's shooting up. Her husband knows about it, but tries to control her by controlling her access to the city. He's also a major cheapskate (which may be due to paying for the drugs) who only let's one bare bulb be lit in the house or a room.

I thought it was Katherine Hepburn or Myrna Loy, but can't find them in the role. The lead character is a famous old actress.

7. I suppose, if you like dreary. I watched it because I was trapped in a small room....
.... with nothing but a TV to keep me company as my computer terminal sat malfunctioning and worthless until someone could reboot from the mother ship.
