3. The "Madonna" riff from "Reservoir Dogs"...
...became a study in overkill in "Death Proof."

That movie, in 25 words or less: "Closeups of feet and too damned much talk."

I'm sick of "Pulp Fiction," still like "Reservoir Dogs," still LOVE "From Dusk Till Dawn" (although Robert Rodriguez deserves EQUAL credit for that one), and have a soft sport for "Jackie Brown," only because of the pairing of Jackson, DeNiro, Greer and Fonda.

Other than that, Quentin can kiss my ass. Haven't seen the Brad Pitt film. I have seen everything prior to that.

7. They are beautiful films, yet so violent

Prior to seeing them, I really was left cold by his work, but there is something very compelling about the Kill Bill films. It is clear that he spent a lot of time studying the genre...

14. Leave it to me to find a Godzilla tie in with Kill Bill....
But the scene where Uma is flying over Yokohama is a set from 2001's Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah.

There's also rumors that Tarantino may be the director for the Godzilla movie currently in negotiations with Legendary Pictures. Just a rumor, but's he's stated he wanted to do one and that he has an idea for one. Hmmmmmmmm. :)

I still remember when this guy went nuts on an airplane, because of some unrealistic demand. I forget what. He threw an absolute fit like a crazy man.

I also find all of his films to be annoying. They're well done, but his dialog writing is really lame and irritating.

9. I'm not a fan of his by any means but I voted for somewhere between
1 and 2. I could see genuine talent in "Reservoir Dogs", "Pulp Fiction", and his screenplay for "From Dusk to Dawn". I absolutely could not stand "Kill Bill". He's somewhat like Oliver Stone - a writer/director with genuine talent whose work got increasingly undone by excesses (and I say somewhat because I think Stone is clearly a better filmmaker and has made some films that truly stand the test of time).

10. I'm with you.
I absolutely loved "Pulp Fiction" and I absolutely could not stand "Kill Bill" - I'm not sure of other film names of his that I've seen; but there was one really bizarre one about being inside someone's head that was just too 'out there' for me.

Like I said, I love "Pulp Fiction" and just re-recorded it to watch it again.

He is a talented odd man ;-) and will most likely go down in history as a genius filmmaker.

11. Well his personality bugs me...
But he's the best living director in Hollywood today.

People will be admiring his work for a hundred years.

John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa, Quentin Tarantino...

12. I think you are right.
Just like I still search out Alfred Hitchcock movies.

Some movies just get better with each viewing.

I don't think all of Tarantino's films will become classics like Hitchcock's are though ;-)

21. Hitchcock made some stinkers.
But I haven't seen a bad Tarantino movie yet.

Some of the stuff he's farmed out to other directors are forgettable. But none of his stuff.

That's awesome, and I know he liked odd music (he was a fellow Sun City Girls fan after all). It would be right up his alley.

23. Love Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, and Inglorious Basterds.
I'm indifferent on Pulp Fiction (which had some absolutely amazing individual scenes but as an entire movie ran way longer than it should have) and Jackie Brown.

Death Proof was easily his weakest effort.

24. I like Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs and Jackie Brown a lot.
I also liked his tag-team work on From Dusk 'Til Dawn.

I tried to watch both Kill Bill (forgot if it was Part 1 or Part 2) and Grindhouse, and lost interest in both of them pretty quickly.

26. His films are a mixed bag but he is a true fan and lover of cinema and for that I love him.
Edited on Fri Nov-13-09 12:37 PM by zonkers
He lives cinema. He loves film. He revives careers, helps restore classics and is a positive cultural prseence in a greedy bottom line industry. I was disappointed in Inglorious Bastards but I am glad it made money and that he will live to fight another day in a fickle business. Tarentino is one of our few bankable American auteur/dirctors of cinema, a rare breed. (along with Soderbergh, Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson, to name a few more) Yeah Quentin is off the wall but he is such a fan of film, I love him. He puts his money where his mouth is. He takes chances. I lke that he comes from modest beginnings and is now living his dream. He's classic American success story.
