Here's a hypothetical I need some help with...
except it's not so very hypothetical.

My (former, this is the roomie who just screwed me over. He thinks we're hunky-dory though.) friend's boss, a militant Reaganite scum-sucker who has stated his preference that we eliminate all social welfare programs to cut the 86% of taxes that the top 25% of earners pay, has decided to pick a fight with me on Facebook over economics and taxation. I've studied economics as part of a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and he's studied film-making as a student in film school; to say that I can annihilate him publicly (This is a guy who has a lot of famous and influential friends who will see this slaughter) is an understatement. However, is this right to do since he is notoriously pissy and will probably fire my friend if I win?

Thoughts?

2. Want to help, comrade?

thus far I'm thinking something like this: How quaint, someone who actually believes in Reaganomics. The top 2% earn 98% of all the income generated in the US...if they're only paying 86% of the taxes (and they're paying less than that even, as that carries the implication that the rest of the top 25% pay nothing) and earn 98% of the wealth, that tells me they're passing the buck of their tax burden onto the backs of the 98% below them. Perhaps they should contemplate that they have no right to ill-gotten spoils and that we are a nation that punishes theft...don't think of it as unfair taxation, man. Think of it as ensuring the prosperity of the American people to insure their own security.

5. Excellent! I would just end it with "ass", preceded by a comma.

13. "The top 2% earn 98% of all the income in the US..." ??
earn
O.E. earnian "get a reward for labor," from W.Gmc. *aznojanan, from *aznu "work, labor" (cf. O.H.G. aran, Ger. Ernte "harvest," Goth. asans "harvest, summer," O.N. önn "work in the field"). Related to O.E. esne "serf."

Considering the word's origin(s), I question your using the word "earn" in the context of the "top 2%"! I wouldn't, however, question, oh, let's say (considering its origin(s)**: "The top 2% grab 98% of all the income generated in the US...".

Anyway . . . :patriot: . . . go git 'im!

________________________________________
**grab
1589, from M.Du. or M.L.G. grabben "to grab," from P.Gmc. *grab (cf. O.H.G. garba "sheaf," lit. "that which is gathered up together"), from PIE *gherebh- "to seize" (cf. Skt. grbhnati "seizes," O.Pers. grab- "seize" as possession or prisoner, O.C.S. grabiti "to seize, rob," Lith. grebiu "to rake"). First record of grab-bag "miscellaneous mixture" is 1855, originally a carnival game.

3. Why would he fire your friend over
a disagreement you have with him directly? If he put it out there for everyone to see, I say the response should be handled the same way. He can't expect that crap to go unchallenged. But if you think he would retaliate in such an immature manner against someone who has nothing to do with it, you could always do it in a non-pissy manner. Don't go in with the annihilate attitude, give him the facts in a polite and respectful manner. Would also make your reputation better than his because of the way you handle it over his approach.

4. Because he's a prick...
and because he's already thrown down the gauntlet. He's already taken the attitude that he's right and begun to condescend. Why do i think he'll fire my friend because I bested him...because it's very much in line with his character and past behavior.

10. Why bother?
I'd rather slide down a rusty razor into a vat of rubbing alcohol than even talk to or engage these types of people. If you win your friend gets fired? You are even entertaining this why?

I did it and thus far, he's slunk away tail between legs and I'm getting shit from my non-friend. Totally worth it.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." -common-misattribution to Edmund Burke

Still true though.
