1. can't do it. I'd need 4 separate votes:
Bowie x2
T.Rex
Roxy Music

just can't pick one.

3. Got to go with Straight Ol' Cowboy Dave's Ziggy record as the glam statement
although Roxy's first album is better and Transformer actually deals with more themes and contains more references from "gay world"

4. "We're coming out..."
...out of our closets..."

Question: was that where the term came from?

7. T-Rex is OK - they have some good tunes
They are nothing like the Unholy Trinity (Iggy, Ziggy and Reed) but Bolan did have some pretty cool tricks up his sleeve.

8. I tell Ms mitchum the same thing...
T Rex was enjoyable pop,
but Bolan was not in the same league as those three

9. The Electric Warrior doesn't take a back seat to Iggy or Reed
Both of those were critic's favorites and not much else...

12. it is enjoyable, but that fey simper and those borrowed Berry licks...
just don't have the lasting power of Reed or Pop.
Reed in particular was not just a
"critic's favorite"
His "Walk on The Wild Side" was a top 20 single in the US
and his "Sally Can't Dance" was a top ten album in the US.
Bolan did not rack up those kind of figures in the US. Now, sales to English teenyboppers is a different matter...

10. Gotta admit for his time, he pretty much invented the persona "rock star"
Everyone afterwards has been some form of Bolan

13. I would argue that Mick Jagger invented that particular persona of rock star
Bolan was actually a much cooler version of Tommy Steele or Cliff Richard or someone like that.

I need to get another copy of that. Someone swiped my vinyl back in the day.

14. They are the most underrated band ever...
when it comes to the glories of ridiculous and over-the-top,
they wipe the floor with Queen.

17. I never liked them
Sure they had some catchy riffs, "Fox on the Run," but like the New York Dolls, I thought of them more as Proto-Hairfarm then true glam.

I mean, sure that song and album are amazing, and Steve Winwood is a genius. But glam?

Bowie. And "Memphis" is an early Ian Hunter number.

27. Mott was written by Hunter to prove that they weren't just a Bowie side project
That's probably why I don't like it as much.

22. Ziggy Stardust factoid:
The character was based in part on a Bay Area musician calling himself the legendary Stardust Cowboy, of whom Bowie became a fan back in the day. He's still around and, in fact, lives right here in San Jose.

23. Picking between Ziggy and Electric Warrior is tough...
but I think I have to go with Ziggy.

I just have too much history with that record.

24. I know it was produced by Bowie, but Transformer seems out of place here
It's totally glam, but with an American lead singer it's tough to put into the BritGlam category.

28. Transformer, ya cretins
Lou Reed basically invented "fag rock" ® (as Lester Bangs called it) in the 1960s while with the Velvet Underground. Bowie and Iggy borrowed it, and the rest is history.
