hurt her. She knew I was furious though.

I used to buy cheap sandals at the drug store and she would always chew them up, (see where this is going?) Well it hasn't happened for a while and I decided to treat myself and bought 3 pairs and paid over $60 for them, (something I really do not do unless it is late at night and I am not thinking).

So I went to bed and the 2 dogs and cat were running around playing and I thought it was cute but I was not watching them. Finally I just got up and one of them - of the most expensive pair, is chewed.

I think I am mad at myself for not putting them up like I decided I would. I was going to take stuff out of a shelf in the closet and put them their. She does not like shoes, just sandals.

Any other stories of pets ruining things? Misery loves company.

Edit to add that I think asking for pet ruining things stories is really tacky of me.

1. Just all the upholstered furniture
and a never de-clawed cat ;)

Luckily, it's all hand-me-down furniture, so whenever I get new stuff, I'll be sure to get slip covers. He can shred those all he wants. He has a scratching post and loves it, but he knows if I'm either not paying enough attention or didn't do something he wanted, then the furniture gets the full scratching rip.

I'm sorry to hear about your shoes, especially after just buying them. Too bad you can't take them to the store and let them pick out the ones they'd want to rip up the most :P

Oh and you need this

2. You know you just made me lol with that comment about taking them
to the store and letting them pick them out! Thanks for that.

I have a chair that I let the cats claw on too.

4. My stupid shit-for-brains lazy ex-son-in-law always left his glasses
on his coffee table where they would repeatedly be destroyed by his dog. Of course, being unable to see properly to do his job as an electrician, he couldn't go to work until he got a new pair. Of course, his glasses were expensive. Of course, there was always some utility bill or car payment or something that was in arrears. Of course, I was the one to pay the freaking overdue bill so shit-for-brains could get a new freaking pair of glasses so he could freaking go to freaking work. This happened three times (that I know of). See why he's an EX-son-in-law?

7. Wow I had an X-son-in-law that was a monster too. Only his thing was to break
into my computer and get on porn sites, (he was around 14). It got so he was not allowed in the house without one of us present. (he would stay at a friend's until we got home.....we didn't make him homeless!)

5. I got the wrong kind of dog once - an Austrailian Shpherd. Way too
high energy level for the limited time I was at home - I had a long-hour job. She chewed the tops off a pair of motorcycle boots, and dug a large hole in the sofa down to the floor.
Had to take her back to the shelter, still feel bad about it even though she is long dead - this was 35 years ago.

I didn't realize at the time that I was too poor to own a dog - I had to work a lot just to keep myself in food and shelter, and was really not in a position to give a dog enough care. It was very sad - I have always loved dogs, and would hate to be without one now.

11. That happens. Sometimes people adopt dogs that just can't fit in with your
lifestyle. I hope you stop feeling bad about it. For all you know she was adopted by a great family and had a wonderful life. Actually she probably did because Australian Shepard's have always been popular dogs.

6. The hordes used to floss with electric cords
when they were teething. Plato in particular crushed the end of a coax cable :wow:. They were totally out of control for about 10 weeks, then nothing. That was about 8 years ago.

The third time I asked my then-current employer for a replacement cord for my company-issued laptop, my boss asked to see the cord - it was pierced in 40+ places with teeny tiny teeth marks. He just shrugged and signed the purchase request.

10. Be glad it was just sandals
I have lost a piece of furniture with every dog I owned. One German Shepherd ate the fringe from my mom's oriental rug. Another chewed through a couch. One female greyhound gnawed the rungs on the bottoms of 3 dining room chairs. My younger whippet chewed and destroyed one of the most comfortable chairs I ever found to sit and read in. My male greyhound decided it would be a great idea to chew the corners of my dresser and a nice table we kept the tv on in our bedroom. My older whippet chewed I don't know how many sheets, blankets, quilts, sofa and occasional pillows and one down bed pillow (note to self: down is a bitch to clean up). The Siberian Husky chewed a monofilament door mat and wound up in the hospital with a major intestinal blockage that required surgery. I've lost shoes too. If it had only been sandals, I would have been thrilled.

12. OK you've got me beat. But still I am going to put them in their crate
at night for a while again. It seems they calm down and behave better when they sleep in there although they don't like going in it.

My problem is I am not consistent with my animals. Well I've figured this out from the dog whisperer.

13. I used to have a really nice collection of vintage dresses and shoes.
Until a roommate of mine adopted a male cat who didn't get along well with my male cat. (Both neutered, but too late in life). I cussed, swore, tried to wash them, failed, threw them out, cried, etc.

Many years later, I don't miss the clothes at all but I'd give anything to have my Marlowe (who passed away at 15 from complications from diabetes) back again.

Stuff is just stuff. Even nice stuff. It won't purr all over you and butt your head at the end of a hard day.

14. Our dog chewed up a library book we got on how to better train your dog. They didn't find it funny
...at least enough to not still make us pay $35 for the book. Most of the pages are still legible though :)

She pretty much chewed up everything in our living room the first 6 months we had her but she so damn cute!! Gnawed up the legs of our piano, all of our kitchen chairs, souvineers from a trip to Peru, many, many, many of my wife's shoes (she's partially to blame as she would just leave her shoes out there every day).

Oh yeah, here's another good story. Well...scary but good. One day she got up on our kitchen counter and chewed up one of those little ant bait poison traps. Luckily she was ok but it literally CLEARED OUT her entire bowels. I came home from work to the stench of what I assumed could only be the dead body of the mailman or something, nope, two giant massive explosive...um bowel movement episodes on the carpet. Get this though, luckily she also shredded an entire roll of paper towels that day. I shit you not!! So I could use those to clean up all the poo! Do you think she thought we'd be mad about the carpet and tried to clean it up herself until she realized how much fun it was just shredding the paper towels instead??? She's a pretty smart girl :)

Hope this helps!
