And I mean, the very, very end of the country...I actually stood behind the marker.

It's crazy that in the 8 years living in South Florida this was my first trip to Key West. The last time I was there was 21 years ago on a family vacation. Pretty neat town.

How cool!

Good thing you got there now...

Might not be too long before it's all underwater...:scared:

15. I hope not.
Actually, as it was, the Keys were rather wet...it was rainy off and on all day. Which is a shame because I wanted to stop by Bahia Honda State Park on my way back--the snorkling there is incredible!

2. Went to Key West once.
Visited the Hemingway House, which has about 50-60 resident cats. Cool town, but I wouldn't want to live there -- hurricanes! :scared:

4. I had no idea
it was 90 miles to Cuba. All this time I've pictured it closer, like 25 miles, like Catalina to LA (26 miles) 90 miles? In one of these? Cripes.

5. I've been there three times.
I just love it. I'm in Wisconsin so it's quite a trip but my sister is in Fla. so I visit when I can.I like being able to see sun up and sun set from the same place.I really don't know what is so special, just seems to be a place where I'd like to settle down.

7. That seems wrong
US embassies are considered US soil. We have have an embassy in Guadalajara Mexico.

That's further south than anything in Florida. That's US. And that is Continental. I dispute your claim. The sun never sets on the US empire, my friend.

8. Actually, not Florida.
Ballast Key is further south, you just can't go there (privately owned).

I should be so lucky as to own my own damn island. Dammit.

13. Technically, the marker isn't even the southernmost point on Key West.
Edited on Wed Nov-11-09 11:30 PM by Tommy_Carcetti
The adjacent Naval Base actually contains Key West's true most southern point. But the marker is the southernmost publicly accessible point on the island.

11. Actually, that's not the southern end of the COUNTRY, only of the continental states.
South point in Hawaii is the southern end of the country.

14. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I know.
But I had $30 for gas and a couple hours for a car ride, as opposed to a $500 plane ticket and long cross country flight. So I'm discounting all technicalities here for the purpose of convenience.
