Useless gadgets Dept: Twitter-equipped bathroom scale
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 11:04 PM by supernova
Twitter-equipped bathroom scale tells the world how much you weigh

The most embarrassing new tech product of the year just got more embarrassing.

Last month, we let you know about the Wi-Fi Body Scale, the first bathroom scale equipped with a wireless connection to send your weight and body fat information directly to your Web page and iPhone.

But weight, there's more.

Today the French company behind the scale, Withings, announced it has added Twitter capability to the scale, enabling the user to automatically tweet the weight/fat info to followers.

Here's a gadget for which I don't hope to be an early adopter. :scared:

edit: Spelling

1. I wonder how long until the facebook scale comes out?
People already share too much personal info online, do we need to make it easier? Imagine the hacking possibilities with this scale...

2. That's even creepier
"Imagine the hacking possibilities..."

I hadn't gotten to that yet. You could really fuck with a person's head if you hacked their scale.

:scared:

6. Yeah, stones would fuck with even my mind

However, since it's French-made, and they also invented the metric system... ;)

7. The thing about Facebook isn't that most of it is too personal
most of it is totally impersonal.

"Yeah, I had a great session with my Cambodian tutor, and finished off my trip to Phnom Penh with a shopping trip for a new sarong!"

10. I don't really mind the impersonal stuff
It can get annoying seeing people like my older sister post every single time she goes to Dunkin Donuts, then to work, comes home from work, has a few beers, but it's nothing to be concerned about.

Somebody I've known since junior high works for a police dept. Recently a well known celebrity made a few trips to her job and she not only posted the details but pictures she took with him. That didn't seem like the smartest idea to me. Thanks to people like her I started a how not to facebook series of pictures like this-

Most of the worst offenders I know got the hint ;-).
