Seems she has a bit of a problem.

Apparently, she caught a ride home from work the other day with another one of my coworkers as her own car was in the shop.

Seems she had a bit of an accident and left a little "present" on the passenger seat of other coworker and never bothered to clean it up or even apologize.

Now, I'm all for understanding for the old and infirm, but dammit, if you can hold down a full time job, is continence too much to ask?

1. that's kind of sad
i feel bad for the coworker who has to clean up too but to lose the ability to control one's bodily functions, that is sad.

2. It is. It's even sadder not to have any dignity about it.
You'd think she'd be aware of the situation and buy some Depends, or something. If and when I get to that point, I sure will, you can bet on it.

3. you would think but sometimes pride and refusal to deal with a situation

does funny things to people.

i wanted to add that my father in law is almost deaf. but refuses to get hearing aids because he isn't old. he is in his late 70's and can't hear a damn thing and is now kind of isolating himself because he can't even hear the fun stories his grandkids try to share.

so whether depends or hearing aids, people are funny about admitting to issues.

4. Okay. Point taken. But seriously....
someone in the office needs to have a talk with this woman. But what does one say, and how the Hell does one say it?

5. HR should know how to deal with it that is what they train those folks for
we had a stinky coworker and someone sat down with him about bathing habits.

he then became stinky for another reason, went overboard on cologne and other toiletries. but eventually someone helped get him straightened out.

my parents were good at teaching us manners, etc but I have worked with folks that made me want to gag and most were younger.

lack of table manners, belching, even farting. worst was this guy who would squeeze zits on his face while in meetings. i once got up and left a meeting, it was gross. and get this people just sat there and dealt with it but no one went to tell him "hey, you are gross" because the others were too polite to say anything.

6. My experience dealing with a stinky employee situation,
might have been easier to handle than this. But I approached it by expressing concern that the employee might have a heath problem that she should consult a doctor about. She got the message and saved her dignity. There's no way I can think of to deal with the problem you describe without embarrassing her. Just being kind is the right approach, I guess.
