Well, My Mom's Funeral Is Done
She went fast, on her terms. Went to work one day, at age 76, the next evening her body turned off. No pain. No suffering. No days of dysfunction and feeling useless.

We miss her, but if she had to go, this the best way.

2. Sorry to hear that Prof
My deepest condolences to you and your family. Losing one's mother, to me, is one of the hardest events in life a person could possibly endure.

May she be at peace.

11. Thanks Zomby
She showed NO pain or grimacing during her last 8 hours. Her body simply turned off. Pretty much all at once.

If one has to go, that seems a pretty good way.

8. Nah.
She was getting old and not as spry. And, she wanted to be absolutely independent, especially since my dad died in 2001. She got her wish. Geez, she called her own 911 ambulance. I figure that's a pretty good way to go.

On top of all this, my wife's dad had lymph node surgery for a tumor today!

When it rains it pours.

25. My condolences to you, Professor
I lost my mom a year and a half ago. Unfortunately, her final few years weren't like your mom's, as she was sick, but she was still fully with us (i.e. no mental problems).

I miss her, and I always will.

28. I'm so sorry! I didn't know.
My mother died in a similar way at around the same age. She called me one morning to say she wasn't feeling well, I took her to the hospital, and she was dead by 3 in the afternoon.

After the shock and horror, my sister and I did realize that at least she didn't have a long painful decline, so I understand how that can be comforting in your sorrow.
