It might be best NOT to read about it until you've seen it. Makes it much, MUCH more interesting to be surprised! Winner of 3 Academy Awards. It's in Spanish so watch it twice. One to read the words and the next to look at the effects. Really great I'm telling you!

1. One of my favorites.
Beautifully filmed, great casting, wonderful acting and storytelling. It's hard to find any flaws in that one.

2. I love that movie
Aside from the general story, direction, beautiful effects, etc., I like that this movie - much like with 28 Days Later - manages to be a horror movie about how awful normal people can be. Most (all?) of the truly atrocious things which occur are at the hands of normal people, not the fantasy monsters.

5. (minor spoilers)
I loved it. It's well-acted, compelling and gorgeous to look at, despite the bloody subject matter.

My wife can't stand it. She thought that the only redeeming characters were killed off, and found the ending off-putting.

8. The ending got to me also. (I gasp, scream no and cry every time I see it)

But I still thought the movie was a work of art. Fantasy is how many children escape the horror of the real word and I understood the girl and the world to which she escaped.

7. Oddest thing, I didn't even realize it wasn't in english until it was nearly over.
That is how engrossed I was. Can't say I have been so into a movie since the Pawnbroker.

9. You may like the Devil's Backbone - also directed by Guillermo del Toro.
He referred to Pan's Labyrinth a "spiritual sequel" to the Devil's Backbone.
