12. also some of the choreography from Beyonce's Single Lady
which was not original as it was inspired by Bob Fosse's choreography as performed by his wife, Gwen Verdon, and two others.

19. Nothing Beyonce does is original
I wonder if the chick still credits herself for writing 'Silent Night'.

Gwen Verdon and the other do it better....

28. She seemed more promising when she started out, I thought.
Especially with Destiny's Child, but even her early solo stuff looked like she would do more than she has. She has a good voice and knows how to sing, but instead of moving forward she chose to use it for easy money and fame, and only in over-produced pop hits that have become more and more bland over time. I don't really dislike her stuff, there's just nothing there to make me want to keep listening to it, if that makes sense. "Single Ladies" is catchy the first time you listen, but it's never more than just catchy. There's no individuality to it. You could hear a dozen other pop stars to do it the same way, and probably grab someone from any decent music school in the country to turn in the same level of performance. I don't know if she's just lazy, or if she doesn't have any imagination, or what.

Just my pointless observations.

7. That is true.
That video is fucking awesome. The song is really shocking in a really good way, and the combination of styles and visuals really works. She has some real creativity to build all of this.

Actually, though he's not my favorite, I find him pretty consistently entertaining. And he's no dummy, either.

15. No offense, but if you ever draw my name in a Secret Santa pool,
please don't get me any music as a present. I find the music as annoying than the video, which is saying a lot.

I will never understand this woman's appeal.

Again, no offense and nothing personal, I just can't stand this.

17. Was she a Fembot at the very end?

The last scene had her in a charred bed next to her dead lover while she was casually sitting there while her breasts were giving off sparks. That was freakin' hilarious!

I see her as a performance artist first and a musician second. It's different and I respect it.

18. She fascinates me.
Despite what the pseudo-iconoclast "Get off my lawn" crowd says, she can sing, and her songs usually have legitimate content. There are better singers, but there are a whole lot worse, including some of the "respected" cult favorites people like to vomit up as examples of "real talent."

But more fascinating is her mix of retro and modern, and the way she uses so many periods and styles for inspiration. She's obviously influenced by Queen, Annie Lennox, David Bowie, Madonna, and all the glam 80 pop stars, but she is influenced by movies and dance and style as well. She borrows liberally to create something new and does it without looking like she's plagerizing. That's what a lot of the longest-lived performers did--Elvis, Michael Jackson, Madonna, the Beatles. I don't think she's at that level, but the Beatles were still doing boy band pop hits a couple years into their fame, too. Who knows, she might get there.

My own little opinion. I stand by it. Cool video, either way.

she is very talented... and you're right, she said she was inspired by David Bowie and a lot of the glam rockers of the 80s.

27. I've seen it. She took her name from a Queen song because someone said she sang like Mercury.
You can see what they were talking about in that version of Poker Face. That's what convinced me she understood the music she was doing, as opposed to just being a marketing ploy with a catchy producer.

22. Absolutely love this video. It reminds me of a video from the 90's (quality-wise).
Most videos today are awful. They aren't creative and their budgets are low because of the decline in music sales.

unlike so many others out there now, but she reminds me of those artists who can't get arrested playing it straight so they resort to over-the-top stagecraft.

"Stephani" is a far cry from "Lady Gaga" --

46. At first I saw her as the product of doing things Madonna might have done but didn't. But suddenly,
I see her as someone trying to be avante garde, within the genre.

And I like that. Not so sure about this song, wouldn't be on my Ipod if I had one. But I think I see the art now.

'Course, it could be the beers...
