There are no human beings working at Earthlink
We need to cancel service, they won't let you do it on line, and you can't EVER get a human being on the phone. I've been trying to get a human being for a week.

1. Earthlink is horrible, horrible, horrible.
Our office comps would constantly go down, and every time they would deny it was their fault. And then they'd make me change my IP address which would only make the situation worse.

2. We used that briefly several years ago.
I cancelled and still kept getting billed for it. I had to call several times to finally get them to stop.

Good luck.

3. Earthlink is still around?
I used Earthlink back in the mid-90's when our local Netcom POP became oversaturated and they refused to expand it. Back then Earthlink was a very good ISP for home users, and they were well known for bending over backwards to make customers happy (I probably had a quarter of my time free during the two years I used them, because every time I called to complain about something, they'd credit me a free month). I was an early DSL adopter and bailed on dialup in 1997, but even at that time they were still a good company to deal with.

I don't know why, but I was under the impression that they had gone out of business. I know they closed down all of their west coast offices and call centers many years ago, and can't even remember the last time I saw an ad for them.

4. I got a human being last Saturday.
It still involved ten minutes of "Are you SURE you want to cancel?" sales pitch but I kept repeating "No thanks, I want to cancel the account."
Here's a headup: they now offer the option of keeping your mailboxes open for a nominal fee each month but apparently this offer is only available to people cancelling. Had I known that six months ago I would have opted for it but I've already notified everyone of my new email locations.

Did you try to cancel via live chat too? That was going to be my next step if I couldn't get someone on the phone.

5. You can't get anyone on live chat
All you get are pulldown menus to select your problem, so you can be directed to a canned solution. I swear there are no human beings there.

7. I must have won the lottery.
I got to a human being on the first try but it was when the calling hours just began and on the weekend.

The woman kept putting me on hold allegedly to check my account info but it was pretty clear that she was being coached or checking a script.
