"No more Chicken Beer".
I belong to a home brewer's group. One of our members likes to brew historically accurate beers/meads, etc. A couple years ago, this guy read somewhere that in medieval England, meat was sometimes added to beer, pre-fermentation, to give more for the yeast to feed upon, and to add nourishing touches to the brew.

So, sadly, he decided to make one historically accurate batch of ale with chicken added. (Incidentally, this is from where some historians believe the word "cocktail" might derive.)

It was horrible and nasty.

Our group now has in its by-laws the following line: "No more Chicken Beer".

1. That's funny to learn, years ago
an acquaintance and his wife really got into home brewing and opened up a brewer's supply store. They made all kinds of beer, and their kids brewed their own soda.

One of the things that the husband told me about was chicken beer, however, in his case, he said it tasted like chicken soup.

"Please, no more threads about chicken" -- and by Skinner, no less.

5. Well, ya gotta remember...
Back then, beer wasn't something you drank to get drunk, but something you drank as a source of calories that kept you alive. Children drank beer. Pregnant women drank beer. Workers drank beer in the fields. It was usually safer to drink beer than it was to drink water.

While flavor was important, calorie content was even MORE important. If they had to sacrifice flavor to make a healthier beer, they would so so.

I'll bet that nasty tasting chicken beer had a pretty good mix of calories and proteins.

7. I'm sure it was very nutritious. But it still tasted "fowl".
I won't apologize for the pun. You all know you would have made it first, had you thought of it.

8. Better than the mutton beer that was also popular. I hear it tasted like sheep.
In all seriousness, I had bacon beer once. It was actually pretty good. The guy made some mutton beer too, but like your chicken beer, he said it tasted awful.

9. Bacon beer? Gawdamn, that sounds scrum-diddly-icious!
Add some chocolate to that somewhere, and you've got the food trifecta!

10. My dad still brews, and he's done that too.
One of his retirement goals was to run his own brewery, and he's doing pretty good so far. He finished a chocolate-maple beer last year that not only tasted delicious, but was so potent that it would have you staggering after only one glass. It certainly didn't taste like beer anymore, but that didn't matter to anyone who tried it.

You know, kind of like "Billy Beer", only with Cheney on the bottle.

15. Alcoholic Chicken, a la Seinfeld
"Instead of hot dogs, chicken dogs. Instead of pretzels, chicken twists. Instead of beer, alcoholic chicken."
"How do you make that alcoholic chicken?"
"We let it ferment, just like everything else."
