Anne Rice has found religion?
I did not know this until recently. I guess that is why we have not seen any more of her great vampire books. I guess that is why we are stuck with the dreck that is called "Twilight."

Her books were great until she switched her personal beliefs.

5. Anne lost a daugther to leukemia and lost her husband more recently
I think that her path back to catholicism stem from great thought over the matters in her life but I could be wrong.

11. you gotta wonder how that works? seriously? seems pretty obvious to me

you live your whole life programmed by religion, you see that this planet has been moved and manipulated for thousands of years by religion, and you wanna just assume that you the common sense rationalist is right and almost everyone else who has ever lived for 10,000 years is wrong?

you get beaten down, then terrible things happen, your child dies, you spend a fortune on restoring old homes and your city goes thru a near-death disaster, your husband dies

do you think $$$ insulates anyone from the grief of losing a child or the fear of the future?

people get tired, they get beaten down, at the end of the day, religion is waiting because it's just too grim and sad if you're realistic

reality gets you -- you'll never see your child or your husband again and one day half your country will likely fall into the sea thanks to irresponsible climate policies, and you've already lived long enough to see a horrible thing like katrina you never expected to see on american soil

religion gets you -- hey, honey, we'll all be reunited in heaven and everything broken will be fixed

what's to wonder about? the way it works is so simple, the only thing to wonder about is how anyone ever gets free of religion

13. I get what you're saying, but
what I always wonder is how an intelligent, non-religious person can convince themselves of things like there is a heaven where you'll get to see Uncle Joe and your childhood dog Skippy again, or that Jesus will come back to life, or even that there's some sort of humanlike invisible deity hovering over Earth (little Earth, amongst the billions of planets in billions of galaxies), and so on. I can understand why people would WANT to believe it (heck, I wish I could believe that "there is a reason and a plan for everything"), but how do you make that leap to really think, yes, this is how it works, I know that now. It would be an impossible abandonment of logic and rationality for me to convince myself of that stuff, no matter what terrible things happened to me.

it's the basis for True Blood and much more geared towards grown-ups

14. For older folks it's called "Cramming for Finals".
She's worried about her mortality. It's common for those facing their own end. Especially those of us unfortunate enough to have been raised with Catholic guilt.
