LAS VEGAS — A new world record has been set at the first-ever Martorano's Masters Meatball Eating Championship in Las Vegas.

Maintaining his dominance in the sport of competitive eating, Joey Chestnut ate 50 meatballs in 10 minutes at Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino where the championship took place.

With the meatballs weighing a grand total of 2.8 kilogrammes, a new world record was set, earning Chestnut the first-place prize of $1,500 (NZ$2,000).

Pat "Deep Dish" Bertoletti finished in second place, just one meatball behind Chestnut.

History will not treat us kindly.
