3. They serve diakon radishes here
in beer gardens. They have a spiral slicer so it comes out in one long ring of radish, sliced very thin. You put salt on it and eat it with your pretzel, ribs and other beer garden fare. It's called Radi.

Funny enough, it is also a healthy food for the liver, along with mustard, broccoli, and kraut among others. Pretty good idea for a beer drinking country.

23. I despise radishes - but
I love radish pods.

When you grow one and let it go to seed, it does this for the rest of the season as long as you keep them picked:

They are like a cross between a pea pod and a radish, without the overly aggressive stank that radishes have (imho). I could eat those raw from the garden all day (really, I could, because one plant will make a thousand pods).

They're also used in Indian cooking. One of my favorite things to make: http://madteaparty.wordpress.com/2008/02/07/moongre-ki-sauzi-radish-pods/

28. I tried a daikon radish in a salad recently.
It smelled kind of funny but was OK. The salad would have been fine without it. The grocery store clerk where I bought it didn't know what it was - thought it was a parsnip. Apparently these are ubiquitous in Japanese cuisine.

Which reminds me, I've got a radish and green onion spread recipe that I haven't made in ages. Thanks for the reminder. Should make that for the next potluck.

30. I've been seeing lots of different kinds at the farmers market
Black radishes, I have yet to try them. Also I saw some that looked like carrots.

I like them on a slice of baguette with butter and sea salt. Yum.

31. They are fabulous and very underrated.
Recently I made a crisp fall salad consisting of romaine, thinly sliced raw apple & pear, diced red onion, thinly sliced raw fennel, pomegranate seeds, roasted pumpkin seeds (threw 'em on on a lark), and, you guessed it, thinly sliced raw radishes. The dressing was a vinaigrette of olive oil, red wine vinegar, chopped shallots, a squeeze of Dijon, a squeeze of lemon and orange, salt and plenty of ground pepper. It was deeeelish, if I do say so myself. :9

34. They are one of my favorite foods!
There is a tea shop in Seattle that has what they call a "ravish" sandwich. It was so good. Thinly, thinly sliced radishes with butter (might have been slightly herbed) on thin sesame bread with the crusts trimmed off it. I've dreamt of it ever since I had it.

One of my favorite snacks is a handful of fresh radishes and some sharp, sharp cheddar. Yum!!
