3. I don't know how people can call that eggnog

It seems like sacrilege to me.

There's no nog in it, and I'm not even entirely sure it has eggs. It's more like a bastardized syrupy dairy shake that grocers label as eggnog.

Real eggnog is a frothy drink made at home with eggs, cream, sugar, nutmeg, and most importantly...nog.

If you've never had real eggnog before, you really must try it at least once. My grandma used to make it on x-mas eve when I was a kid. Needless to say I was sleeping like a brick in no time. I suspect it was invented for just that purpose.

6. My Grandma used to make home-made eggnog.

Oh, it was heavenly, and so thick to drink it I practically needed a spoon.

But Grandma died in 1989, and no one makes her recipe anymore. :-(

I do like it thick.

And get that abomination called "Lite Eggnog" away from me!
All they do is water down eggnog. Blech.

12. Losing Grandma recipes is kinda sad

Most of them were in her head and not written down anywhere. Fortunately at least I remember her making it. She used an old electric hand mixer to froth the egg whites and her nog of choice came from a pint bottle of Jim Beam she used exclusively for that purpose (a small bottle would last her for years). Now I wouldn't hit a dog in the ass with a bottle of Jim Beam, so I don't keep it around, but I do use bourbon and I've been able to closely approximate her recipe.

Alta-Dena Honey Sweetened Egg Nog. Thick, rich and full of flavor. Perfect seasoning.

They also have regular and Pumpkin Spice.

14. Do you have 7-11 stores, Whole Foods, Wild Oats or Walgreens? They carry that brand of milk.

Used to mix it with Kahlua. So rich it was like drinking a brick, but sooooo good!

These days it's plain, with just a sprinkle of nutmeg. I close my eyes, and I'm a kid again at Christmas, and the whole family is there.
