Disc Brakes Are For Cowards.
There I said it.

Actually I saw that on the bumper of a 1966 Belvedere today.

6. AND, power steering is for wimps.

My 440 SixPack '70 Challenger had manual steering. It was a handful around town.

8. Yeah, but with a 440 like that
you only need to turn slightly and then hit the gas and oversteer the back end around, right?

11. That's the only way it worked.
That car was so light in the ass and had so much torque it was a job just keeping the back following the front!

15. Or when the power steering goes out on a normally power steering vehic
It really only seems to matter when parking.

I also had a "rocker arm?" not sure of the term there...break on me once...

Dumbfounded expressions on faces of men at the garage.

"How did you drive it to here like that?"

"I don't know. But I did."

7. I had the Dodge Polara version of that car in black.
Had the small V-8. I drove it from Philly to San Francisco in 4 days in 1975.

12. The Polara was the cop car of choice around here.
Could always tell when one was trying to sneak up to the parke we hung out in for "refreshment time". Brakes had a distinct squeal to 'em.

Sounds like a fun trip. Solo or with a co-pilot?

14. Solo. I drove as fast as traffic would allow till I started hallucinating, then found
a motel to sleep till I woke up.
Got 1 speeding ticket in Nevada, for 88 MPH.

Had that car for about a half year out in Berkeley, sold it for what I paid for it.
Came back home the next year on a bus.

18. So is driving carefully/defensively, and abstaining from booze before driving too...
No amount of disc brakes/ABS will compensate for the imbeciles on the road during rush-hour...

16. So, the first thing to do would be to rip the engine and support systems out
and replace with twin forklift electric motors. Put the batteries in the back and you solve those rear-end problems from too little weight.

And then take it drag racing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrHXdM9f13k

:D

(I know, not the same car, but imagine how much better and faster it would be all electric!)

20. Damn Straight !!!
There was nothing more encouraging than hearing the rivets on my brake shoes scraping the brake drum trying to stop my 396 Super Sport Chevelle, with about a 90/10 weight distribution ratio. Only 8 mpg, but the go juice was only 27 cents a gallon then. I needed the money I saved on gas to replace blown clutches and burnt out brakes shoes and have the drums turned.

It was a fun car, but even at 75 mph highway speed limits, it was a speeding ticket machine. :o
