Just made the appointment for my first tattoo
A small red maple leaf to commemorate one of my very few good ideas: moving back to Canada when I had the chance. :)

4. You're not supposed to make an appointment. You're supposed to show up drunk.

7. The tattoo artist is French and stoned
 He works in the back part of the head shop. His work is superb.

5. Don't make it too small
If it gets blurry later, you will want it to be recognizable. :)

8. I figured as much
It should survive nicely if I put it on my ankle, which is not likely to, um, shrink if I ever lose the weight I'd like to lose... :P

Seriously, I'm thinking about an inch or so in size. The artist agreed.

9. I got my first (so far only) tat 2 years ago at age 55.
It was the logo from "V for Vendetta": Above it is the word "FREEDOM" and below it is "FOREVER".

I got it large and it is on my right upper arm. I wanted people to know what it was and to be able to read the words. It still is hidden by a short sleeve shirt though.

11. Beautiful!
People up here are a lot less uptight about visible tats, but there's visible and then there's in your face :D. Plus I don't expect everybody to "get" something that's highly personal.

10. My first (of 2) one was off-putting while waiting
A dude showed up totally upset with his results. He wanted the head of a jaguar and it turned out looking like a possum snout or something.

He and the "artist" were right there in front of the 4 or 5 of us waiting, and we could hear everything and we all were frozen in rapt attention with the same thought: "Uh, is there a tactful way OUT of here?!1" I guess we all stayed.

What somebody posted (above) about not getting it too small because it might get blurred and indecipherable is spot on!1 I've got a USN plus anchor and they got that way.

12. The artist I spoke to said
mine needed to be a couple of feet. I'm open to suggestions, but only up to a point.
