8. Stanzi's replacement
Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 12:58 PM by JonLP24
a redshirt freshman just rifled a pass straight to a Northwestern defender. This will be interesting how Iowa plays with Stanzi out of the game(for now).

12. What happened to Stanzi?
I watched a bit of that game, but Northwestern had the ball at the time (and scored to go up 14-10), so I missed whatever happened to him ...

16. Basically he got hit inside their own endzone and he fumbled
Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 01:26 PM by JonLP24
Northwestern recovered on the fumble which was laying in the endzone so therefore they scored which was their first touchdown. Stanzi lied there for a short while then limped off. He did walk to the locker room on his own power so that is a good sign

13. I doubt Stanzi will be back in this one.
Looked like to me a pretty uncomfortable foldover on his ankle. He was walking pretty poorly, and even if he does come back in, he won't be able to plant his foot.

He's 5 for 5 with a touchdown, and Illinois just scored a defensive TD to go up 14-0, but right after that they were looking at his ankle on the sideline. I'm not sure how serious it is, though ...

I don't know why Texas has had such a problem with slow starts this year, but they're not playing well today, and UCF is driving (now inside the Texas 30).

Normally I'd root for the underdog over Texas but in this case UCF has ugly uniforms so 'hook 'em' Horns.

Northwestern just recovered a fumble in the endzone and Stanzi appears to be hurt. 10-7 Iowa.

79. yeah, the rivalry hasn't been the same for the last few years
Between OU's down years in the 90s, Nebraska's struggles since that classic '01 matchup, and the Big 12 schedule only permitting them to play twice every four years, the rivalry sure ain't what it used to be.

But I'm still looking forward to tonight's game!

This season has been marred by too many close losses, too many missed tackles, poor special teams play and general shooting-themselves-in-the-foot. Today, however, is sweet, bowl-eligible or not.

Minnesota just scored a touchdown on a blocked punt. They then tried an onside kick (they've only got one timeout) but it went out of bounds so Illinois will have the ball.

34. Kickoff is about to begin in Oregon @ Stanford
College football fans don't underestimate Stanford. Toby Gerhart has 994 yards and 13 touchdowns and because of his size he is nearly impossible to stop in short yardage situations. I also know "experts" on ESPN were making fun of Harbaugh for his praise of his QB but I seen him play and he is a solid kid. Only a freshman he has 1,825 yards and 9 touchdowns to 3 interceptions.

and they're all trashing the Pac 10. I guess they're so simple minded that they do not realize how talented Stanford is. Luck is leads the Pac 10 in passing efficiency and Gerhart is leading the Pac 10 in rushing. If you look top to bottom 8 teams are at .500 or better.

Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 05:37 PM by Twillig
I saw Pike from Cinci, Barkley from USC, and the Beav's Canfield. As good as any of them. He's in that class. Probably better, as a Frosh, than Bark.

I fear Luck.

Luck is scary-damn good. Against the Beavs he had a sure long bomb TD--on the first play of the game--dropped by his go to guy, and the Beavs dodged a bullet, jumped all over the Tree and held on to win.

Arizona State had one of the top ranked defenses in the country entering the game against Stanford and there was nothing, I mean nothing they could do to stop Andrew Luck. To put it this way, highly touted Jake Locker struggled against Arizona State. Threw 50%, 1 touchdown 2 interceptions(3 but it was called back for a penalty away from the ball).

If you're watching this game. I say all interceptions but one was drops by his receivers including a sure touchdown like you mentioned. If you watched ESPN this past week, "experts" were mocking Harbaugh for putting Luck up there as one of the top QBs in college football and like you said he is scary. He is just a freshman on top of that with 2-3 years left.

Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 06:17 PM by JonLP24
For the most part they have been making the tackles for short gains but still get burned here and there. (EDIT:They just stopped Oregon on 4th & 1)

Good thing Stanford has a QB playing lights out. Luck is closing in on 300 passing yards and Gerhart has around 150 and 3 TDs.

69. I don't understand how teams get fooled.
the running back is to one side of Masoli. Masoli reads the defensive end or linebacker to that side and either hands off or runs outside of the defensive player that is going for the running back. Do not go for the running back. Keep contain. Do your job, you're not superman.

Why do they not CREAM THE QUARTERBACK on every play? (this is what Boise did the year previous, and put Masoli out)

The quarterback fakes the handoff, so hit him.

This is why the pros don't run an option. They can't keep their quarterbacks heathy.

Hell, the Ducks at U-ACL(anterior cruciate ligament) can't keep their quarterbacks healthy.

Teams and players think they (like USC) are going to blow up the play and get PWNT on the misdirection.

stupid.

Nobody respects ol' whitey Gerhart, and he does a Larry Csonka vs. the Vikings on those teams. (as a fan of the vikes, I say this)

Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 06:37 PM by JonLP24
Masoli did the fake handoff thing and faked like he was going to run it and dropped backed to throw 2 touchdowns to wide open receivers. For the most part they are stopping the run and hitting Masoli in the backfield but had around 3 long runs and 1 was a touchdown.

On edit/ Gerhart has over 200 rushing yards and closing in on Stanford single game rushing record.

On edit/It was the running back with the long runs, not Masoli. Masoli did score on a short touchdown run but he hasn't been running the ball like he has the past few games.

48. 31-14 Stanford HALF
Whatever happens in the second half Andrew Luck is living up to Harbaugh's praise (once again).. 9/14, 189 yards, 1 TD. Also Toby Gerhart has 110 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.

Gerhart just broke a Stanford single game rushing record, now has 222 yards. 3rd and 5 coming for Stanford. First down game is over. 1:03 left.

99. I'm watching your game online
I can't catch it all with the OU game on at the same time, but I've seen some really good ASU defensive plays and, unfortunately, the INT for a TD. Still, aside from that one play, a lot of cause for hope in that half, right?

"I'm watching Arizona State beat USC in the first down and yardage gained"

OU is in the same boat against Nebraska. Nebraska scored on a 2-yard drive after an INT. Oklahoma has missed two field goals. Pretty frustrating half, all in all ...

They'll probably show the Best injury at halftime, but in case you miss that clip, it's on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Srhg2JMA9bM

(According to that clip, he's got a concussion but has full movement, thankfully.)

100. I just caught the replay and concussion report on the halftime show
I'd be hopeful for the second half but whenever this team does something good they get a penalty for it and Sullivan, at least he is playing his best game so far which seems strange considering he has 2 interceptions so from that aspect I'm not hopeful. #1 defense and Sullivan, that combination is incredibly frustrating. Not to mention the RB fumble at the 10 yard line from scoring.

Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 08:55 PM by JonLP24
I'm still surprised they still have that ranking given the large amount of yards allowed against Stanford. Now with Stanford's explosion over Oregon it doesn't look so bad.

Sullivan has been the problem for us all season but he is doing alright with the exception of the boneheaded interception.

Ball bounced around at least 20 times at the beginning of the interception by an Arizona State player then at the end it was stripped and the ball flyed in the air but an Arizona State player recovered. Anyways it's all under review but it should be Arizona State ball.
