I have been seeing so many "I Support President Bush and Our Troops" signs
I'm seeing them as bumperstickers, and as signs out in front of houses.

I'm quite sure those who post them believe that "Supporting President Bush" is a prerequisite for "Supporting Our Troops", but that doing the latter without the former is treason.

I really want to ask them in what way they support the troops.

I suspect all they support is unbridled military aggression and jingoism. The troops can come home in body bags, for all they really care. If they are aware at all of the unprecedented cuts to veterans' benefits, they don't support the troops enough to be outraged about it.

Selfish fucking bastards who masturbate to thoughts of Bush taunting "Bring 'em on!"

I hope there's a hell so they can rot in it.

I'm going to print out recruitment forms, so I can hand them out to homeowners who have those signs in their yard.

5. Exactly
Once a week I print out and copy an article from a Veterans website (ex Army Times, VFW, etc) nashing Bush* and the Repukes for abandoning vets. They get distributed to all of those with a "Support Bush* and Support the Troops" sign.

Edited on Wed Aug-13-03 09:25 AM by Magic Rat

8. Thanks Zidzi!
Watching it now. A father whose son was killed in Iraq is speaking now. Fernando Suarez del Solar is his name; he has an interpreter. He says, "Mr. Bush, how many more of our sons do you need to bring our soldiers home? How many more American lives? ....No more deceit. My son will not return but I want other sons to return home."

This man looks so very sad. My heart goes out to him. As he finished his speech, he hugged his sobbing wife.

Next up is Stan Goff but Fernando's wife is still sobbing. Now it is making others on the stage cry.

10. I'm In Texas Too
And they just come with the territory down here, unfortunately.

I've put up yard signs I had made up saying "SUPPORT THE TROOPS, NOT THE C-IN-C." I had four made up. Here's how the breakdown went:

Day 1, Sign 1: Put sign up in morning. Went to work. Came home and sign was broken off.

Day 2, Sign 2: Put sign up in morning. Went to work. Came home and sign was still up. Woke up next morning and sign was gone, stake and all.

Day 3, Sign 3: Put sign up in morning. Went to work. Came home and sign was gone.

Day 4, Sign 4: Put sign up in morning. Went to work. Came home and sign was still up. Went out to get a drink with friends later that evening and sign was broken off.

Fucking Republicans. Real tolerant bunch. You can bet there is going to be some randomized sign payback from yours truly come the height of election season.

11. See if you can get them on film
If you can capture them destroying property and then getting into their car, press charges against them. It wouldn't solve the problem, but it could be satisfying nonetheless.

14. Indeed
If they're going to come back night after night, rent/borrow a minicam. Send tape to police, send tape to local TV.

Phooey on them, it's your yard!

15. You can shoot people in Texas for property crimes
Maybe you could legally improve the gene pool by plugging a few of these mo-fos.

Heh heh, it'd be a bit like a mousetrap: set out the Freeper-baiting sign. Wait for them to sneak onto your property and begin to steal the sign, and BLAMMO! Dead Freeper! Repeat as necessary!

OK, apparently the law is for certain property, like a car or truck, not a sign, and it only provides for use of lethal force at night, and there are a few other caveats, any of which would disqualify this scheme. But still...

17. Are you saying the least they can do is put out a bumpersticker?
Empty words are empty words.

I support our troops. I think their benefits should be restored. I think that military family housing should be adequately funded. I think it's a fucking travesty that military families need FOOD STAMPS to get enough to eat. I think it's a crime to send them to fight an unnecessary war based on trumped-up intelligence, and I think those who sent them there under false pretences deserve LWOP in a brutal federal prison.

And yes, I'm willing to pay more taxes to support our troops, although I think it could be easily done without needing to raise taxes.

BTW, welcome to DU!

If it's on the roof, you might have more legitimacy for shooting them when they try to steal it.

19. I wonder if they mean the real President
the one the people of the US actually cast more votes for?

Oh, they mean the AWOL, coked-up, chickenhawk fratboy occupying our White House? Well, my response to that is simple:

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS - BRING THEM HOME NOW.

20. These signs were printed by Clear Channel
A lot of the yard signs around central Texas were distributed at the rally held in the spring in Austin that was organized by war mongering corporation Clear Channel. I don't know about the bumper stickers but I know the yard signs came from that rally.

On a related note there is a gathering/protest in Crawford Texas on August 23 being organized by "Military Families Speak Out" Here's the link to a press release they sent out and I posted to Activism/Events board
Military Families Gather In Crawford To Tell George Bush, "Bring Them Home Now!"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=106&topic_id=1380

On the hope the war mongering neo-cons rot in hell, I'm firmly behind you on that one. Send them straight to hell!

22. isn't that kind of an oxymoron?
Since Bush seems to be doing everything he can to mess up the troops and their families. One can support either the troops, or Bush, but not both.
