Poll question: If you were going to a concert and these were your 3 choices, which one would you choose?
And if you want to explain why, please do so.

Please no smart remarks about them being dead...I know that, but if they weren't and at their prime - you had the opportunity to go see one of their concerts....which one?

1. I'd prefer Beatles but I said Elvis because he just pumped my gas and I felt sorry for him.

15. He's one of my township's trustees
Seriously, one of our Delhi Township (Ohio) trustees, Mike Davis is a professional Elvis impersonator. I didn't vote for him as he belongs to wrong (R) party.

4. My dear madmunchie!
The Beatles!

Why?

Because I came of age with them!

I saw them on the Ed Sullivan show when they first came to the USA...amazing!

:headbang:

28. did you miss Elvis?
One of my earliest memories was giving over the TV to my cousin who was eight years older than me so she could watch Elvis on Ed Sullivan.

I also remember Bo Diddly and really digging it, although my uncle was mocking him mercilessly.

Of course I was there for the Beatles. AND the Stones. Who wasn't?

29. My dear Capn Sunshine!
I don't remember now if I saw Elvis on the Ed Sullivan show!

I might have, but if I did, it sure didn't make the same impression that the Beatles did...

Your memories are way more vivid than mine, sweetie!

I must be getting old...

12. They're good but they don't hold a candle next to the King.

The banter between Elvis and Berle in the second half of the clip is priceless!

21. We'll have to agree to disagree.
IMO Big Momma Thornton was a much better singer than Elvis. Her singing was musical.

Her lyrics in this song tell a particular story: a woman rejecting a man who only wants food and shelter. Elvis's lyrics are comparatively bland and generalized.

The clip showing Elvis and Berle is amusing.

7. tough call between Elvis and The Beatles, but Elvis's prime was really even briefer than the Beatles
and the excitement of the very dawn of rock and roll would have been even more amazing to witness than the Beatles ( but just barely). Seeing The Beatles BEFORE their prime, at the Cavern Club or in Hamburg might have been equally exciting as Elvis's prime, which I'm really defining as the Sun records days and briefly afterward. They started ruining him pretty early on...

9. I'd almost chop off a finger if I could've seen The Beatles..
A friend of mine and one of the biggest Beatles fan I've ever known was at a PETA conference here in the L.A. area several years ago and Paul was there. He walked by where she was and she said something like "Paul, can I have a photo with you?" He said something like "on the way back." She waited (I think it was over an hour - I'm not sure) and he walked back by. She said "Paul, you promised" as she held up her camera in the air. I'll be darned if he didn't walk over to her and one of his people took the picture! She made me a copy of her and Paul (she had her right hand on his stomach and he had his arm around her). She said this was one of the biggest thrills of her life. I treasure this picture and it's framed and on my bookshelf. I also came of age with them. To me, nothing comes close to their music. It's kind of like there are The Beatles and then there's everyone else.

10. I fully agree that the Beatles put out more incredible music than just about anyone and everyone
certainly far more than Elvis ( and I also came of age during the Beatle years)...question was just who I'd have loved to see in person in their prime. To me ,The Beatles had all but ceased to be a performing band by their real prime, whereas Elvis's prime was to me, early in his career, and I just think the excitement of seeing something that radically new and unexpected and powerful would have been mind-blowing.Never saw either of em,and am insanely jealous of those that have.( but also feel the same way about people that saw The Doors, Janis, Elmore James, Hendrix,Little Walter and The Clash; although I at least did see Strummer). As I said in my reply, it really was a tough call between Elvis and The Beatles. Elvis finally won out due to the reasons I expressed in both replies. Doesn't denigrate the amazing output of music of The Beatles that will last, maybe for centuries, all in an amazingly compressed period of time.

1. His 50s music is fantastic.

2. He owned a gold plated Rolls Royce, shot at televisions and gave away Cadillacs. Thank you very much.

19. Easy choice for me...The Beatles
Elvis - overhyped, so-so voice.

Michael Jackson - see Elvis (above). Could dance a little.

23. I'd definitely go with the Beatles but keep this in mind:
The reason they quit touring was because they couldn't hear themselves play. I bet both Elvis and MJ would be interesting to see in concert.

My auntie saw them at Shea Stadium. I love seeing videos of their concerts. You can just feel the energy! Elvis is before my time, and MJ is just too much dancing and pyrotechnics for me.

25. Michael Jackson - without a doubt.
While I grew up during the Beatles - hey day as well as Michael Jackson when I was a little older - there simply is no comparison. Elvis - while he was "also" called the "king", had a great voice, oodles of charisma great performer, he didn't hold a candle to MJ. While the Beatles where a phenomenom- I loved their music and of course their performance level was outstanding - MJ did and had so much more to offer. He was one of a kind for our generation. His music was varied, interesting and much of it humanitarian message based. His performance - well no one held a candle to his dancing - performance level in combination with his voice. Talent wise he stood way above Elvis. I would even say even above the Beatles. While at least the Beatles did write their own music, their weren't any dance moves or lavish productions that were the brain child of them. They were all performers - MJ was that and then so much more. When I watch his performances - there is such a light coming out from within him - an energy that transcends anything that I have ever seen....

MJ composed music about getting along and peace while he gave the most money to charity than any other performer.

I love music and theatre. I still am feeling a profound sadness about the loss of MJ. Without a doubt he was the brightest shining star of our generation.

27. I said the Beatles.
MJ was a very cute, extremely talented kid. The Jackson 5 were just a fabulous pop band. He was an incredible dancer as a young man. I thought his solo songs were overrated, though. I don't get the big fuss over "Billie Jean" and "Thriller" et al.
