I just emailed for some information on an old bandmate and friend and I'm a little
bothered that I might find bad news. He was the drummer in a group I was in in high school, and we were friends since about 12 or so. We last played togetherin mid 1965. I went away to college and another bar band, he went to a group that recorded a top 10 single and several top 40's after that. I can't find him in his local directory, and I'm pretty sure the others in our old group are all dead. I'm just hoping he's still around somewhere.

We got thrown out of cub scouts together, one of the funniest things that ever happened to me.

1. I hope you find him well, and
that you and he can get together and reminisce. Since you two were friends for a long time, even before your band days, you probably have a lot to talk about.

Here's to you both. :toast:

3. As the mother of a former boy scout...
I would love to hear your story!!
My kid has been in the school band, the marching band and plays a little on the side with his friends. I have seen the closeness these kids have. I guess that will change over the course of them growing up. If this person had a big hit and was in the top 40 it seems like it would be easy to find them...?

4. How I got thrown out of Cub Scouts.
A church at the end of our block had a Cub Scout troop, and had a meeting for kids who wanted to be scouts. There were about a dozen of us, about 10 years old or so, and I found myself next to this kind of chunky kid with a blonde crew cut.His name was Karl.We got along immediately. We were telling jokes and laughing like crazy.
This adult guy came over and started commanding us to be quiet, get in line and "stand at attention", and Karl said,"Why?", and the guy said, "Because I said so", and Karl said,"Fuck you!" I laughed till I cried, and we both got thrown out of the meeting, went to his house, in a side street near my house, had cookies and listened to R&B records.

And that's how I got thrown our of Cub Scouts for laughing.

6. I guess as "grown ups"
we should say that was a horrible thing for a kid to do. But I think if I had been at that meeting, I would have laughed out loud hearing a kid doing that.
I sat in on a lot of Scout meetings, I never saw such a strict leader.I think any adult that says "Because I said so" without explaining WHY probably does deserve a "Fuck you!".
Were your parents and the other kids parents understanding?

7. His parents thought it was funny - I have no idea what my parents thought -
I have no idea what I told them. Actually , we were around 8 years old and a lot smaller than many kids our age. I was just tickeled by the outrage of it, and I still am. I still have little use for authority at age 62.
