CONFESS!!!! What did you wear last time you flew on an airplane
I for one like comfort. And comfort is sweatpants with my favorite oversized sweatshirt - usually my Philadelphia Eagles hoodie although sometimes I go for the Cincinnati Reds sweatshirt I have that I love.

I usually fly economy but the few times I made first class I still wore the same thing.

1. Loose comfortable clothing.
Because I was returning from testing at the Mayo clinic. Last year I wore what was basically a sweat outfit home because I'd had a bone marrow biopsy two days before and was sore as hell!!
People need to understand we aren't all traditional business travelers.

3. a pair of jeans, a tshirt and a hoodie
i would have worn pajama pants, but we went to lunch before we went to the airport. i was wearing pajama pants when i flew business class on british airways, but i was bumped up to coach at the gate. i probably would have worn the same thing anyway as it was a ten hour flight.

5. Jeans and T-shirt.
And there are times flying internationally where I've worn short and t-shirt. Since I was traveling with a bike, I wouldn't have to change and could ride away from the airport.

30. Are you able to travel with your bicycle intact?
Every time I've taken a bicycle with me on a plane trip, I've had to disassemble it and put it in a box before it could be accepted as checked luggage, then reassemble it at my destination. I can't imagine a place at an airport where I would be able to reassemble it, or even where I'd be able to ride it around.

43. Not any more.
A couple times they gave me a huge plastic bag. I had to turn the handle bars and remove the pedals. Easy. Then I had boxes where I could do the same (I'd toss in my tent and blue sleeping pad as well.) The last time was a pretty small box, and I had to take even more apart.

Now with the TSA goons(Thieves Stealing At-will), I don't dare fly my bike.

7. Columbia sportswear slacks & long-sleeved button-up shirt.
I was coming back from SE Asia.

If it sounds like I was "dressing up" I really wasn't. Both items were very comfortable, which is why I chose them. I wore my running shoes for footwear. Once again, comfort was the issue.

I don't think people should have to be anything more than clean and decent to get on a plane. Well, I also don't think anyone's clothing should cause another passenger discomfort or intrude on their space. I add that caveat because once I flew to New York with the woman in front of me shoving her fur coat over the seat and into my face every 15 minutes or so.

9. I always try to combine comfort and style on flights
I wore a loose fitting skirt and some leggings and a very nice shirt. I got bumped up to business class once wearing the same style of clothing. I wish I were rich and could afford that again....today we're featuring wines from the Tuscany region. Loose fitting clothes are the best on long haul flights but does it need to be a TRACK SUIT?

12. You have to dress for comfort on airplanes because you are squeezed in like sardines
The seats are smaller and closer together than those on a Greyhound bus.

It is simply a bus for the air; nothing glamorous about it, so why the hell should I or anyone else dress for anything but comfort?

13. Business casual. I was traveling on business.
The last several trips have been day trips. 6:30am out of BWI (on Southwest) and back on a 7:30 flight (typical) Home by 11:30pm.

Houston and Tampa. Did SF and Palo Alto a couple of times back in the early 00's.

Just got back from Amsterdam last month. Wore black yoga pants with a silky blouse, blazer and flat black shoes. You can be comfortable and still look dressy, which is your only choice as a traveling airline employee.

Business trip, but these days, if you're in a suit TSA really doesn't mess with you. Or maybe it's just my "don't fuck with me" vibe, I dunno. But I wear suits more often than I do anything else, because I'm always fucking working it seems, so I'm comfortable in one.

24. So yesterday evening I was on a flight
from ATL to MSP, and there was this guy sitting near me (not too near, fortunately), who looked like pretty much of a slob: Middle-aged guy, long, stringy, greasy blondish-gray hair; patchy gray stubble, a dirty, wrinkled orange denim shirt with the sleeves torn off (revealing his armpit hair), baggy cut-off jeans, and sandals. You can decide for yourselves whether he was dressed appropriately for flying, but what I can't figure out is why he'd be going to MSP in November dressed like that? Damn, it was *cold* when we arrived.

36. I've seen a few people on winter flights from Japan to MSP/Detroit/Chicago
wearing cut-offs/shorts, and yes, I have been a little surprised. Some of those people are probably coming from Taiwan or Singapore, but I have seen others at the ticket counter at the Narita airport, which in January isn't exactly Palm Springs.

i hate that routing, but that's what they were doing, putting him on that last flight out to LAS

i'm not real fond of that flight but i've taken it many and many a time, and usu. i make the too-tight connection, and sometimes my luggage even makes it too

:-)

if he doesn't make the connect and gets stuck at MSP, hope he stays in the airport, otherwise that's going to pretty chilly overnighting there

The last flight from MSP to LAS leaves at 9:30 so he should have made it and not frozen his grungy butt hanging around the chilly North. Seems like a strange way to get to LAS, though.

i wasn't in first class on this flight but i've worn the same outfit in first/international business many times, no problem

i'm surprised so many wear jeans, seems unhealthy on a flight of any length altho i guess the sloppy, too big jeans are OK to wear on a long flight but well-fitted jeans don't seem a v. good idea -- you don't need to experience any constriction on a long flight because of the risk of DVT

between a track suit and jeans, i think the better choice by far if you're concerned about health is the track suit but i don't own such a thing, i'll stick w. PJs
