Without him, The Brew Crew would have never made the playoffs in 08. The Dark Lord Steinbrenner was able to woo C.C. away from my beloved Brewers with a salary that Milwaukee couldn't even begin to match. He left, and the pitching suffered.

I'm willing to bet the Great Satan of Major Leauge Baseball is going to make a move for Prince Fielder once his contract is up.

30. Or steroids
There's little doubt that the last two years have been steroid clear in the postseason. But really, after 99 and before last year? The steroid era produced the Boston championships. But yes, the Bosox payroll ballooned to $162 million, but they supposedly didn't "buy" their championships, right? Come on.

31. Yankees always first in payroll and try to buy it.
This year they succeeded, but they've been trying to buy it every year since Georgie has been on the scene.

Bosox payroll was $122 million this year, fourth in MLB. The Yankee$ payroll was over $208 million well over $50 million above the second place payroll Mets. You could cover the Red Sox payroll and the Cardinals payroll and still have over $2 million left over with the money the Yankee$ paid out this year.

I'd give up Boston's $ advantage over the likes of Kansas City tomorrow for true revenue sharing like they have in all the other major sports. I've yet to have a Yankee fan say they would agree to do the same or even admit that they have this advantage. Why is that? Because you like having an unfair money advantage and as the Texiera signing prooved the Yankee$ can outbid the Red Sox anytime they want and you guys like that, but aren't honest enough to admit it!

As for the steroids, any player including Ortiz, Ramirez or any other Red Sox shouldn't be allowed into the Hall of Fame; but that applies to A-Roid or any Yankee as well.

By the way, did you cheer when A-Roid hit home runs in the playoffs and series? If you did, then your comment is the very embodiment of hypocrisy.

To hell with the Yankee$, their money advantage and their hypocritical fans!!!

Comparing A-Rod's performance this year, when the steroid use happened in his Rangers days, with the Red Sox roid use, which was going on at the time when they won. Big Poppy was roided out in 2004, not ten years before. This year's postseason is squeaky clean on recent use of performance enhancing drugs, with the exception, perhaps, of Manny Ramirez.

The Red Sox payroll in 2004 was $125,000,000 (2nd in the majors to the Yankees)
The Red Sox payroll in 2007 was officially $143,000,000, but ended up $155,000,000 (again, 2nd to the Yankees).

But they didn't buy those championships?

You're just bitter.

41. Just like a Repug
When asked a question that can defend their position they don't answer and they try to put the focus on someone or something else.

As for the drug testing it began in 2003 (and that is the year Ortiz tested positive), so the smear capaign that Yankee fan$ have been trying to drum up that taints the 2004 championship is a leap to say the least. I notice you don't mention the 2007 title at all when it comes to steroids.

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20030311&content_id=217260&vkey=spt2003news&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

I am also amused at your attempt to psychoanalyze me as I am not bitter at all. I tip my hat to the Yankee players as they did indeed play like champions. Also, having been a Red Sox fan through 1967, 75, 78, 86, 99 and 2003 and then to win the way we did in 2004 against the Yankees and then to win it all again three years later has been more than I ever hoped for.

What I do object to is the fact that Yankee fans will not address (just like you didn't) the fact that the economics of MLB are totally screwed up and favor the Yanks. You stated yourself, that the Red Sox were "second to the Yankees" in payroll in both 2004 and '07. As I said, I would give up our financial advantage over the Royals tomorrow, but I noticed you didn't say you would do the same. After all, I thought that's what DU is all about. If you think there should be more economic equality in the overall economy, it's a travesty to try to defend the Goliath (that favor the Yanks) economics of baseball.

We shall see you and the Yankees in the spring...

A-Rod tests positive in 2003, and anybody who cheers him in 2009 is a hypocrite. Big Pill Poppy tests positive in 2003, and we shouldn't "taint" the 2004 (!) championship with it? I wouldn't presume to psychoanalyze anyone who could hold such ridiculous contradictory opinions.

As for the money, the point is simple: if the Yankees are tainted on money, so were the Sox in the years they won their championships. It's really that simple. In 2007, they outstripped the Angels payroll by $40 some odd million, the Indians payroll by $80 some odd million, and the Rockies payroll by a massive $90 million. Indeed, the differential between the Red Sox and the Rockies matches this year's differential between the Yankees and Phillies, the only difference being that the Phillies outstripped each of their own playoff competitors, payroll-wise. Indeed, the difference in payroll between the Red Sox and Rockies exceeded the total payroll of 19 other MLB teams.

56. The difference
Between what you're saying and what I am saying is I would agree to put the Rockies on equal footing with the Red Sox, but you evidently would not put your preciou$ Yankees on equal footing with any of the other 29 MLB teams...isn't that right? Don't waffle; the answer is either yes or no.

As for steroids I think all those who used should not be allowed into the Hall of Fame and their records all should have an asterisk next to them. All of them, no exceptions.

57. The answer is no
I don't think payroll is all that determinative. You still have to go out there and play. The difference between you and me is that you will bring up the payroll argument when the Yankees win, but you get all sniffy when anyone dare "taint" the Sox series. For my money, they were both perfectly good series, with not a thing wrong with either.
